What would REALLY shake up the Meta

By KineticOperator, in X-Wing

To heck with ships, how about some of the possibilites for what comes WITH those ships.

Modifications:

Heavy Guns: The ship gains 1 Attack (5 points)

Backseat: The ship gains the "Crew" option. (5 points)

Pilot Skills:

Hard to Hit: Secondary weapons lose 1 Attack when firing at this ship.

Torpedoes:

Heavy Torpedoes: [Target Lock]: Spend [Target Lock] and discard this card to fire. Range 3, Attack 6.

Or any number of other "small" additions to whatever ships come in Wave 3. I am pretty sure we will see some new mods/weapons/etc., I wonder how useful they will be on the ships we already have…

Your Heavy Guns Mod would really just make HSF better (hurr 4 dice at range 2), but I generally agree with your ideas, it is possible to make major changes to how people view their ships without coming out with something totally different.

Personally, I'd like to see more pilots for the existing ships as well.

Heavy guns would breath some life into the a-wings.

EDIT: double post

Backseat TIE Fighters?

I was just trying to throw a few example ideas out, maybe a card that gives your ship a firepower of 3 would be better than a straight +1.

But the general point that upgrades to existing ships may have more of an effect on the Meta than the new ships still stands. :-)

cool ideas. i like hvy guns and hvy torps. id also like to see more pilots printed.

what about a pilot that can pilot two dif ships?

What about torps that ignore shields?

gun turret for Y-wings?

Auto cannons?

How about a commander card that would put an effect on the battlefield. Like Tarkin or Mon Mothma

Oh I like that!!!

How about Advanced Targeting which allows you to fire both Primary and secondary Weapons for a stress token.

Autoblaster: Attack 4, range 1-2. You may not spend Focus tokens during this attack. If this attack hits, you may assign 1 stress token to in order to change all of your (Focus) results to (Hit).

(Harder to aim since you have to win with unmodified dice, but potentially does extra damage)

The small group I play with thought of this awhile ago and actually play with them with the critical hits

Damaged hyperdrive - Ship cannot move more than 2 in any direction

I Lost R2 - All ship's upgrade cards are disabled until card is turned over

+1, Cool Idea!

I love the idea! Here are a couple suggestions.

Mon Mothma - "It's a TRAPHPH!"

Discard this card. Immediately destroy one of your own ships. Turn all of your other ships 90 degrees.

Tarkin - "You may fire when ready."

Discard this card. All of your ships fire as if they had a PS of 0. At the end of the turn, you may add 6 asteroids to the table. These asteroids may not be placed within 1 range of the table edge or of any existing asteroids, but may be placed under/on ships.

I'm kidding about the abilities obviously, but I do really like the idea of commander cards. :-)

I like your ideas, but you're confued about who Mon Mothma is. Mon Mothma was the lady giving the briefing in Return of the Jedi. The guy that said "IT'S a TRAP!" was Admerial Akbar. Which would just give us more options for Command Abilities!

lol, ooops. I knew that, but I just watched Big Bang Theory last night and had "Its a Traphphph" stuck in my head! :-)

How about an assault transport ship (with very limited combat ability, but still has some so as to not be a total gambit) that can board other ships? Requires a ship to ship collision, and then you resolve the assault with some dice. If you succeed, you control the new ship! Could be harder if there's a pilot accompanied by crew (especially hard if that crew member is chewie!).

I like this idea, but I could see how a lot of people might not.

What about the abiltiy to have asteroids move during the game? Have a dice expansion where each player got to roll an asteroid die at the end of each combat phase. If said die rolls on a specific movement the palyer has the abilty to move an asteroid.in the direction on the die.

Elite Pilot Talent:

Dark Curse Training (cost 3) - When defending, ships attacking you cannot spend focus tokens or reroll attack dice. This upgrade may only be used by Black Squadron Pilots or Saber Squadron Pilots.

Modification:

Payload Upgrade (cost 3) - This ship may take one additional missile upgrade

Unique Pilot Ability: (Rebel Pilot only)

When another friendly ship at Range 1 is defending, it may reroll 1 defense die.

Newton's first law: a change in the state of movement (acceleration) has to be provided by a force. How could you possibily explain the random, ever changing directions of these asteroids?

Also, that'd be a very tedious game where you tack on this chore on top of what can be an hour long game.

Please keep away from newtonian mechanics when talking about star wars ;) Other than that I perfectly agree - no randomly moving asteroids in x.wing, please.

A 7pt Concussion missle?

I understand Newton's Law, but I also watched The Empire Strikes Back. Those asteroids were moving. It was just a suggestion on how to change the game up. After reading your post I agree, it would become tedious… so scratch the asteroid movement.

At BB,

I've been saying the rebels need that defense reroll since day one. That would be a great pilot ability if you ask me. If it was an upgrade card I'd call it attack pattern delta.
