Race

By Kager, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Is EotE going to cover all the races available for this RPG? Or do you suspect more will be added within the other 2 core rulebooks?

thanks

I suspect more will be added in supplements and the future core books. We'll be getting the 8 races in the beta in the upcoming EotE.

I know they detail 8 playable races, but they'll probably include a few more in the supplement storyline included in the back of the book - like those included in Crates of Krayts.

Playable species… this isn't D&D with its "everything can interbreed" type of beings, heheh.

haha!…busted!! :)

Everyone: What playable species would you like to see?

Officially, I would have liked to have seen Duros and Zabraks included in the corebook, with Cathar, Squibs, and Togruta being added later on.

And thanks Tassedar for the plug on the Species Menagerie. While I'm justifiably proud of the work that Cyril and I did, suffice to say that our interpretation of a given species may not jive with how someone else sees them. If nothing else, hopefully we've provided a good starting point for how a GM might interpret a species for their game.

The rules probably don't need to diferentiate between species.

There just isn't much difference between human, bloke with bumps on his head, blue dude, etc.

Maybe you could have Little Alien (Jawa, Ewok) and Big Alien (Wookie), but this is a narrative system and you don't want to get bogged down in pointless minutia.

I am playing a Duros in the game i'm in, actually. Its very easy to stat species. I just took a Rodian and swapped their skill bonus and talent for Astrogation and Galaxy Mapper, to reflect their proclivities. Rodians have Survival I think, and a talent that matches it, so I kept the xp the same.

And yet FFG has already differentiated between Star Wars species, to a much greater extent than WEG's D6 system did, particularly in 1st edition.

Also, crunch sells, particularly to players. Doesn't mean that FFG has to include dozens of new species write-ups in each book, but there are going to be fans aka potential customers that will want to see official version of Species X, particularly if the GM doesn't allow non-official material into their games.

Lets not forget how WEG made humas more powerful than any other species in the galaxy. so in my book FFG already has one up on WEG. The species seem to be fairly balanced, thanx FFG.

I myself am looking foreward to a Species Guide from FFG, and possibly a Starship Guide.

More powerful how? lots of the species WEG made had higher caps on attributes or gained 2 for 1 initial skill raises during creation. Humans were the average with 2D in everything (3D average for a Hero character).
