Reprints?

By terppa75, in Call of Cthulhu LCG

Hi

I am new to this game, i wonder when we get reprints about older sets?

all my area and country stores here in Finland are sold out.

Sets like summons of the deep, dreamlands, the yuggoth contract.

A bunch of them are scheduled for reprint this summer. Check out the upcoming page link at the top of the site.

I'm very much hoping the Dreamlands gets the long-awaited x3 treatment this summer, to coincide with Terror in Venice that reinvigorates the Day/Night mechanic. Sadly, only pack 1 from the cycle is currently listed for reprinting, but hope springs eternal…

I have a beginner question; please bare with me, I am new to the Cthulhu LCG:

When FFG reprints a particular expansion (or core set for that matter) do they fix the mistakes they made in previous iterations? For instance, I used to own a core set, and it had a lot of erratad cards and little mistakes--as a matter of fact, one too many for my taste, and I actually got rid of it (not just for this reason, but it was certainly a deciding factor).

Anyways, lately I've been thinking of getting back into the Cthulhu LCG on a purely casual level, but I would be much more determined if I knew the sets I buy have the fixed cards in them, and I wouldn't have to look over pages and pages of erratad cards every time I construct a deck. I think it is the sign of poor quality, playtesting, and perhaps even balance, and makes me less likely to trust the makers of the game.

When they reprinted King's Landing and Defenders of the North for AGoT last year, they did amend the banned cards so that they were once again playable, and have also stated that the same will happen with the upcoming reprinted A Clash of Arms cycle. Whether CoC has as many errata'd/banned cards, I cannot say, but it does appear to be somewhat policy to make playable once again any cards that are reprinted, based on their handling of the AGoT cycles.

However, with the exception of a single error to one of the story cards, none of the errata in the core set are actually noteworthy. You will never play any of these cards wrong because of it.

And prepare to consult the FAQ regularly. Even if they corrected all of the cards, you'd still need to read up on the rule clarifications and advanced gameplay examples, e.g. the detailed section on how actions are resolved. Unless they also reprint the game manual, knowledge of the FAQ is crucial to the understanding of the game.

If that's a sign of poor quality, then all of FFG's games are affected by it equally.

Thank you for the answers; I am looking forward the reprints then.

Poor quality may have been a poor choice of words. Allow me to elaborate.

I am, in general, very cautios of games that have a larger amount of erratad and/or restricted cards (large is of course relative). The Cthulhu LCG seemed to me as one of these games, but I may have been wrong. I admit that I do not have a huge frame of reference. I only play Netrunner on a regular basis (which does not have any incorrect cards so far, but addmittedly is very new). Magic also had very little erratad and/or restricted cards in the past 4-5 years, but of course, Wizards has all the money in the world to test the crap out of the every new set they release. The reason the CoC LCG, in particular, made me wary is because I had a test run with it way back and found out that, on top of a few cards with incorrect text, one card in the core was actually printed with the wrong faction. I thought this was such a careless mistake that it really tarnished the image of the game for me.

Nowadays, however, I am thinking of overlooking my initial impressions of the game and give it another go. But I would like to buy updated versions of the cards wherever possible. That is why I asked about the reprints.

They change the release date every quarter. Q4 2012 they were reprinting Q1 2013, When we hit Q1 2013 it got changed to Q2, when we hit Q2 it went to Q3, just the other day it changed to Q4.

My guess is they are not going to reprint the set. It has been sold out most places for a year now.

And now it seems we'll have to wait for Q1 2014 for the reprints... first i thought that the Dreamlands cycle would be reprinted with the coming of TiV, then i hoped that it would be available in time for Euro Regionals or World Championship... but 2014? Seriously? :(
