How long do you think FFG has the Star Wars license for?

Looks like WEG published books from 1987-1999, and that WOTC published books from 2000 to 2010 (and minis from 2004 to 2010).

Curious how long folks think FFG has the license for (and if the Disney deal could shorten it in any way)? Seems like you'd have to have it for at least 3-5 years to make it worthwhile. That could mean 4-8 more waves of ships or accessories if they release 2 waves a year. That would be a lot of ships! Though maybe they'd release some doubles with different sculpts and pilots. I hope they release acrylic tokens at some point, too.

I believe Christian said he had acquired the license as far back as Gencon 2010. WotC's licensing agreements were for 5 years. Knight Models only seemed to be for 2. I would have to think that FFG's would have to be at least for 5 for them to have taken so long in develpment before they got product released.

I actually believe that WEG went under before thier licence ran out. I do know that they had a few sourcebooks in the works when it ended.

I looked up a few other things (SWCCG from Decipher) and I would say it looks like 5 years is probably a good guess. Much shorter than that and it probably wouldn't be worth it for either party, longer would be to "open-ended" for Lucasfilm (and especially for Disney). So I would say (with no real knowledge of the contracts) that 5 years looks to be relatively standard for this.

It would seem pretty likely that Disney, anyway, would want most existing licenses expired by 2015…so they can negotiate new contracts that incorporate material from the next series of movies (which start showing up in 2015).
