Question from Newbie

By Mesrob, in Star Wars: The Card Game

Guys, if I plan on playing casually, no tournaments, just playing at the local game store, or with other people from my group/area, is one Core Set enough? What about the expansions? Two of each, or one? I'd like to keep costs down, so I was wondering what you all recommend. Thanks for your time.

I deeply apologize if this has already been answered, but thanks for your time.

One core would be fine. The force packs come with full playsets so only ever need one.

I strongly recommend getting two core sets over 1 core set and a couple of force packs.

There is some advantage to this in that you can have more multiple objective sets.

However, for a card game buying two core sets and picking up a single pack of the expansions once per month or so seems pretty cheap.

Right now there are is only one expansion so it's relatively cheap to get in. For less than $100 you can have as many cards as are useful in the game and that is buying at retail.

Core sets go about $25-$35 shipped online (although I heavily support getting from a local gameshop as they do provide tournament support - in your case since you don't plan on playing in person shop online). I recommend two of those over the force packs - but if you end up liking the game and wanting more you can always purchase a force pack or two later on.

I play Magic so this game is like a free roll! I do wonder if getting 2 cores sets is a good idea long term. Right now the card pool is very limited but in say a year would having 2 just be a waste?

There are a lot of good cards in the Core set that I think will still be played a lot for years to come.

Sold another core set it is!
