I've gone through all the battle reports I could find over the past two weeks and came up with a couple of summaries I thought folks might be interested in. I was just trying to figure out what people were playing and what was doing well so I could develop the best squad possible. All things considered, things seem to be pretty balanced so far:
First, here is a breakdown from various reports that included 29 squads people reported playing or playing against:
Rebel squads = 14
Imperial squads = 15
Squads with at least 1 big ship = 15
Squads with no big ships = 14
Average squad size overall = 4.34 ships
Average squad size for squads with at least 1 big ship = 3.00 (range = 2-5)
Average squad size for squads with no big ships = 5.78 (range = 3-7)
From this thread ( http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=332&efcid=6&efidt=806861 ) that includes nine winning squads, we learn (so far) that:
Rebel squads = won 4 of 9 events
Imperial squads = won 5 of 9 events
Squads with at least 1 big ship = won 5 of 9 events
Squads with no big ships = 4 of 9 events
Average wining squad size is pretty skewed, so I think the best way to present this info is that 5 winning squads had 3 ships, and 4 wining squads had more than 3 ships (i.e., 4, 5, 5, & 6 ships).
Note: I did not include the event I went to and won in the second list since only two people showed up (but I did include the squads in the first list since it deals with what people played more generally). Obviously this doesn't take into account any upgrades or anything like that (but there were a wide variety of those as well).
In sum, when you go to a regional event, be prepared to play just about everything you can think of… rebels/imperials, large ships/small ships, and small squads/big squads. And, several different squad types and sizes seem to be winning, which suggests that player skill (rather than just squad type) is a pretty big factor in who comes out on top.
I look forward to hearing what other people think about this summary to date.
