Best storage

By Bjorn Rockfist, in X-Wing

I have seen the posts about the Plano 5231 case, but was wondering if there is anything people are using that's alittle more secure.

I use that case and just went to the local craft store and got a sheet of foam to cut up and secure the ships in each compartment. holds everything nice and secure.

I was thinking either it or a couple of the Plano 3750. I like the 5231, but this is what I am trying to store.

2 X-wings

2 Falcons

4 TIE Fighters

1 TIE Advanced

2 Slave 1

and all the core set items needed to play.

I use 3 of these right now. They stack and lock together so all three can be carried as one case.

I use the 5231, or it's evolution 3952. I carefully cut the plastic molding they came in so I can lay the ships across the openings and still have room underneath for tiles and bases. Given that arrangement, it feels very secure.

I'm currently just using the larger boxes and plastic holding shells for everything. In the box for the Core set I have the original X-Wing and two TIE fighters. Underneath the plastic shell I have the range ruler and movement guages. The two big spaces that hold the cards and tokens have been emptied and are just the right size for two single ship expansions. I have it holding the Y-Wing and two A-Wings; and in a week or two when my X-Wing comes in, that'll go in there as well. The hollow shell holding the Falcon currently has the bases for the Falcon and the Slave I in it underneath the Falcon. The Slave I shell holds everything else, and by that I mean all of the tokens, the ship cards, the upgrade cards, the ship tokens, the ship dials, and the inital set of dice. We'll see if we can cram the extra set of dice in there once those come in. The cardboard sleeves that come with the Slave I and the Falcon can fit two small ship expansions each, so I still have space for another four fighters. Most liekly, in a few weeks I'll pick up two TIE Interceptors and another two TIE fighters to tuck into the sleeves, leaving just a TIE Advanced out on it's own.

One quick piece of advice, save the plastic the ships are packaged in. Trimmed down, it does an excellent job keeping your ships from "rattling" around in the case.

Also, there is an excellent (and cheap) case in the crafts department at Wal-Mart that has perfectly sized compartments to hold 2 x Millenium Falcon or Slave 1, and a dozen smaller ships in. I don't know the name of it offhand, but it is in the bead section.
