Interceptor vs Mauler Mithel

So, 18 points gets you 1 alpha squadron. 18 points also gets you Mauler Mithel w/ Vet instincts.

In this scenario, you trade boost and 3 dice at range 2 and range 3 for pilot skill 9, allowing you to barrel roll out of lines of fire much more often.

Saber Squadron vs Engine Upgrade Mauler. You now only trade 2 dice at range 2 and 3 for PS 7 instead of PS 4.

I tend to have a hard time taking an interceptor instead of mauler becasuse of the higher pilot skill. Thoughts?

I like taking vanilla backstabber and using him as a flanker more than mauler. More often tahn not, you find yourself outside of someones firing arc. Three dice in 75% of the board is powerful.

I keep toying with the idea of Mauler with either Veteran Instincts + Engine Upgrade or Push the Limit + Engine Upgrade.

I could also see doing Daredevil + Engine Upgrade if you like making head-to-head passes. Surprise! I'm turned around on a dime and behind you.

I like Mauler with an Engine Upgrade working with Interceptors. I've just managed to track down 3 INTs and was planning on giving this squad a whirl to see how it flies:

I suspect it's too fragile against builds with a YT-1300 or two (making it useless for Regionals etc.) but I fancy its chances against most other builds.
