New Player - Questions

By Antigoth, in CoC General Discussion

So I've recently come into possession of a couple of the LCG core sets.

I've got some questions:

1) What's the best way to get up to speed quickly on the game?

2) I'm noticing that the cards are white bordered as opposed to black bordered. Are these cards simply reprints of the COC:CCG?

3) If I come into possession of the old CoC:CCG, can I mix and match it with the LCG?

4) What threads or other resources should I be specifically looking at to get caught up?

1) To get up to speed download and print the faq on the support page

which can be accessed through a Cthulhu LCG article on the above News link.

Read it and the rules booklet thuroughly. Read the article 'Deck Building 101'

which can be found in the 'Deck Building' section of these forums.

Be sure to post any initial questions you might have.

Introduce some friends to the game. Slap together some decks using one

or both of your core sets if needed and play, and then play some more.

Any rules questions that cannot yet be answered through play and reading

the faq/rules booklet use the forums here and its' 'Rules' section to get your answers.

Finding an experienced player or play group in your area (game store) can

really get things rollin'. Become a Servitor who demos the game at a

local hobby shop and runs official leagues and tournaments.

This game has supported Regional, National and World Championships

in the past so if your the competitive type keep an eye out for that.

2) Yes and no. The Core Set cards are 'reprints' of black bordered ccg cards

but a good number of those 'reprints' have been altered and improved.

3) Yes you can certainly mix white and black bordered cards for casual play

but the current Adventure Leagues will not allow it and we've yet to be informed

by Fantasy Flight Games whether or whether not the black bordered cards will

ever again be allowed in any other future officially supported events.

4) Some one else might be able to give you better advice in this area.

I will say that this site is not very well structured or organized so you may

have to comb back through the subject headings. Unfortunately many of

the same questions are asked and answered over and over again but

don't fear to ask them if you can't find the answers in past posts.

There are a bunch of willing and helpfull folks on these forums

and generally associated with this game.

The best way to quickly get up to speed is to purchase the new core, all reprints. It's only 155 of the 1,400 cards; but it's exactly your answer. You'll be quickly up to speed. You'll be missing hundreds of other cool cards; but you'll be in possession of a fine selection. I find one core set to be entirely inadequate for play, I guess functional to be fair. We each make our own collection best we can. Mix borders all you want; but a tournament will have its own rules.

Black border cards: Arkham Block including two expansions, a premium set, and promos, Eldritch Block including same, Yithian Deck, and the first four Asylum Packs. All make up the Collectible Card Game (CCG) releases.

White border cards, the Living Card Game (LCG) releases: Core set, AP V Mountains, AP VI Ancient Horrors, and Summons of the Deep, a set of six Asylum Packs.

how much $$ are we talking here?

List price of the new core is just under $40 US. Can be had for just over $25 plus shipping from discount web sources.

Where in Arizona?

A local Ohio player just returned from school in Penix so you may have lost one there.

I have a friend in Sierra Vista with quite a collection but he is the only player in that entire dusty town! llorando.gif

Hi. New player, have been buying the expansion packs and just got the core set off layaway tonight. Like the idea of a deckbuilder, but is there anything for us Mac users?
