Looking for Warhammer Invasion Players in Vancouver BC Canada

By Dela Luna, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

Hello everyone. I'm not sure if I can post this message here. I tried on the "Community" area not getting that many hits so I'm trying here.

I just recently picked up this game and I'm looking forward to playing it. However, the closest gaming store near me mostly does MTG, Pokemon and Netrunner as the games of choice to be played. I'm hoping to hook up with players in Vancouver. Since all I have is the core set, I'm not looking at doing tournaments (yet), just trying to get to know the game and the local community. [i've recently placed an order for the Assault on Ulthuan expansion just so that I can get the other playable races.] I'm willing to drive around town or meet at some designated spot in Vancouver or in Burnaby, BC Canada. A little bit about myself, I'm currently a Grade 5 elementary school teacher and have been gaming since high school. I have a variety of interest in games (just not a lot of time). If interested send me a message or email me at delalun@hotmail.com Pax. Ed Dela Luna

When a friend and I started playing 2 years ago we did 3 simple things that really helped us build a play group:

  1. Start a meetup site. This provides a central place to post play times and also provides a place for all the local people to communicate with each other. (note: our group started as a purely WHI meetup group and after the the initial start up payment our group has been fully paid for through donations.)
  2. Meet somewhere consistantly. There were a couple of months in the beginnng when it was just my friend and I playing and a couple where it was just myself when he couldn't make it. Consistancy lets people add you to a routine.
  3. Use Boardgamegeek user locator . I was getting really discouraged in the beginning after numerous posts on several websites without any response. It wasn't until I searched for users within a 20 mile radious of our local shop an checked each of their geek lists to see if tey owned the core. I then sent each of them a geek mail and a link to the meetup. Our group gained 4 members from this.

We now have a consitant 5 - 7 players each week playing with monthly tournaments of 7 - 9. There are very few that already know how to play this game so be prepared to teach everyone, but once you get a rehersed game explaination down after doing it for a while you'll be able to explaing the game in your sleep.

Hope this helps! I love this game and love to see people actively trying to build a WHI group.

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely look into it and stay positive. But if anyone is out there reading this feel free to drop me line if you want to link up. Pax. Ed Dela Luna
