Teaching a New Player

By Waterhobit, in X-Wing

Hey, I recently bought into the game and have 1 core, 1 Tie Adv, 1 Y-wing, 1 A-wing, 1 X-wing, and 2 Tie Int. I don't see much point in using the basic 2 Ties, 1 X-wing for teaching the game, especially since I will be teaching people who should be able to pick up on it pretty easily. Given my current set of ships, what should I start out with for teaching the game? My first thought is maybe a 2v2 or 2v3. Maybe 2 X's v 2 TIE's + 1 Adv/Int?

Any other advice for teaching would be great as well. Keep in mind that I've only played a couple games myself as well, although I have a pretty good understanding of the rules.

Keep the point totals the same and only use generic ships until they get a hold of the basics.

Edit: I would do the following to get them familiar with moving and the turn order with pilot skills.

  • Red Squad Pilot (PS4)
  • Rookie Pilot (PS2)

vs

  • Saber Squadron Pilot (PS4)
  • Obsidian Squadron Pilot (PS3)
  • Academy Pilot (PS1)

Play a 40 or maybe a 60 point game if that's what you really want to start them off with. 31-34 point core game is always a good start for a new player..

I'll be teaching a friend to play this weekend and I'll be teaching him howmyself and a friend learnt, following the rule book using each of the scenarios in turn. I can see why you will be doing what you suggested but I found that each scenario built on the rules learnt in the previous scenario.

if you hae a smartphone just youtube the complete a tutorial and let them watch it. I would say use two x-wings then build the other fleet to match points . Keep it basic with very limited cards
