Are the maneuver template guides considered part of the base for overlapping purposes?

By rowdyoctopus, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I swear I read something telling me yes or no on this, but I cannot find it now. Simple question. Had an incident in a game the other night where Vader overlapped the guides on a Rebel ship. I said I was pretty sure the guides were still part of the base, but the rulebook didn't specify. We went with my ruling and he lost all interest in the game after that as it left his Vader a sitting duck in the middle of my squad with no actions taken resulting in 3 damage taken.

This came up in a Regionals game today (not one I was involved in) and I swear I remember reading somewhere that the "nubs" to guide movement templates were NOT considered when overlapping ships or asteroids. Now I can't find it. I seem to remember the ruling involving the nubs on a Proximity Mines token, with regards to detonation, and they were ruled as NOT counting.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

There isn't anything specific about the guides not counting for overlap but in all other instances it seems the guides are not counted as part of the base.

Note: When determining firing arc and measuring

range, ignore all guides (the two small bumps on the

front and rear of each base).

Maybe this is what I was remembering. It seems odd that they are specifically removed form those instances and not others.

It says on page 17 in bold print while their bases remain touching and the nub is a part of the base.
