Winning multiple regionals

By Revanari, in Star Wars: The Card Game

I won a regional this weekend. I want to continue playing in the regional tournaments. I am wondering what would happen if I won another one. Would the ticket to Worlds be wasted, given to the second place, or could I gift it? Perhaps none of these will happen, but I am curious.

Thanks.

You could give It to someone else. It's up to you.

Is that common practice with FFG games?

I'm not sure if you can give it away. It seemd like when they give the ticket out, they also asked for the winner's name and the ticket number, so I think the two are linked. Don't know for sure, though.

The winner of our ANR regional had already asked as he might not be able to go to Minnesota for Worlds so might be giving it to someone else in the group.

I can see it being passed down to 2nd place but not giving it to your buddy that finished in last place.

Has anyone actually emailed FFG about this?

Here is the response I got from FFG.

Anyone is welcome to attend our World Championships in November. Winning a Regional Tournament will offer the Champion, free entry to the World Tournament, and a first round bye to the game they won at Regionals. Multiple Regional Tournament Victories of the same game will grant you multiple tickets to our World Championships, these tickets are NON-transferable.
If however, you win Multiple Regional Tournaments for different games, you will receive a first round bye for each game you won a Regional Tournament.

That's unfortunate. Will lead to a lot of unused tickets by people who cannot afford to travel to Minnesota in Nov.

That kind of stinks. No incentive to go to more regionals once you have already won one.

Thank you for finding out the answer. I agree that there will be some unused tickets, but I will still try to attend a few more regionals. I enjoyed both of the other two that I attended.

Yeah, although it also stinks for the person who comes in second to somebody who won a regional already. It's too bad the ticket couldn't be deferred to the runner up in that case.

I'm going to another regional soon and I have already won one. If I get to the final game, I will ask my opponent if they plan to go to Worlds if they win. If they do, we'll play the games. If I am winning on the last turn of the second game, I plan to concede.

I plan on going to more as well, but I think unless its a buddy of mine, I'm just going to take the win. It may seem silly, but if everyone and their mother at the world tournament has a first round bye, then what's the point?

There is still incentive to go. You can dream crush.

Bravo! You don't see sportsmanship like that very often.

Thank you. My primary goal is to have fun and make sure others do as well.

Reiner Knitzia said it best. "The goal of any game is to win. But it is the goal that is important, not the winning."

Well, I am with you there. But I hope someone would not interpret this as "predertermining the result of a match" which, as outlined in the tournament rules, is considered unsportsmanlike conduct.

I think that applies more to two people planning it. I'll ask him/her casually if they plan on going. If I just concede, that is my choice alone.
