Kneel to reduce the cost, and bypass with stealth

By pdcstation, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

In a recent match my opponent as Greyjoy had a card that said he could "kneel this character or a warship to reduce the cost of the next Greyjoy character by one". Does this ability allow you to kneel multiple warships and that character to reduce the cost of one character (i.e. kneel 3 warships to pay for a gold cost 3 character) or does it mean that for each character you wish to play you can kneel a warship to reduce the cost of a character by one (i.e. you can kneel 3 warships, but the ability is to reduce the cost by 1 so you are wasting warships)? We worked on the latter, and the ability to use it to reduce the cost of each character played by 1.

In my hand I had the Darkstar who had "when bypassing a character with stealth take a power from that character". This lead to the discussion about who can be bypassed by stealth. The rules say you can select any character owned by the opponent, which would suggest you can select knelt characters, and those not eligable for the challenge. In the interests of being "fair", we ruled at the table that you could only bypass eligable characters, but I didn't think that was strictly what the rules said.

Oh and The Martell location that allows you to kneel to remove a military, intrigue and a power icon from a character (there was something the opponent can do to remove the effects) was this truely meant to say and rather than or ? Can you play this once attackers/defenders have been declared to remove that character from the challenge, or is their strength already "in the challenge" before their icon is lost?

1. You're referring to Amitious Oarsman, and you can kneel as many copies of this character and as many warships as you please to reduce the next raider character you play. Or you can spread them out over several characters.

2. You can bypass anyone on your opponent's side of the board, as long as that character doesn't have stealth. This is regardless of their icons and/or eligibility for the challenge.

3. Yes, it's meant to say and . This location, The Scourge, (which is now on the restricted list, btw) removes one of each icon from a single character. Anyone (not just your opponent) can trigger the response on the location by discarding one card from their hand per icon to give them back. If you trigger this location on a character that is already participating in a challenge, it will not remove their STR from the challenge, as the icon being present is only needed for them to be declared as an attacker/defender, not to continue to participate in the challenge if they lose said icon.
