Do you reset characters when you start a new exapnsion?

By Poustevnik, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hey everyone

I just got WOS through the post today, and im having a look through the quest guide, and im wondering what peoples opinions are on the choice of characters for starting the new campaign off?

Would you continue to use your full strength characters from the JITD campaign, and keep the overlord at full strength, or would you bring everyone back down to their starting levels and build up again?

Answers greatly appreciated :)

It all depends on how attached everyone is to their heroes ;-) The current campaign I've been playing has been done for about 2-3hrs once a week. We finally broke into silver last night, so if a new expansion came out and I told them "Hey! Let's start over" I'm sure I'd be lynched ;-D

I assume you mean WoD and not WoS.

And I also assume you mean the basic quests and not Road to Legend.

In which case, you are talking about the basic campaign rules, where people keep the same character from one quest to the next.

However, by you asking if the hero is returned to full strength or not makes me think that you may have misinterpreted the rules for what happens between quests.

Essentially, each quest in the basic game (and WoD / AoD / ToI) is a separate game. A complete reset, back to the start. Nothing carries forward - no skills, no treasure, no nothing.

With the basic campaign rules, you can choose to keep the same character, but you still lose all your skills and treasure. The only thing it does do is that you start the next quest with a little boost (extra cash IIRC).

I'm pretty sure if you have played all the quests in JitD with the basic campaign rules, that you should start again from scratch with the quests from WoD.

Are you actually allowing your heroes to take with them the treasure they got from the previous quest?

If you're using the basic campaign rules, I don't see any reason you'd need to reset heroes' levels when transferring from one quest book to the next, though as I recall, the basic campaign rules suggest you retire a hero after they've successfully completed around 8-9 quests, and there's 9 quests in JitD, so you'd probably be starting new characters around that point anyway.

Though as Paul noted, if you're letting heroes carry actual equipment and stuff from one quest to another, you've misunderstood the intent.
