Now that the Disney takeover is complete and LucasArts is no more, what might happen with the gaming relationship between Disney and FFG when it comes to Star Wars? In development Star Wars video games have been axed. I just recently discovered the awesomeness that is X-Wing Miniature Game and my concern is that it has gone as far as it can go in terms of expansions.
What Will Happen Between Disney and FFG?
Short answer:
This will not negatively impact X-Wing or the LCG in any way. So yay.
Ill leave the long legal answer to someone else.
As long as I get some B wings and Tie bombers I'm good.
Disney axed Lucas Arts because they were funding it as soon as the take over went through. They didn't want to pour capital into game development when they could just license the property out. There will be more Star Wars video games because they will license them to outside game developers. Fantasy Flight paid for the lisence and Disney is continuing to get a cut, why on Earth would Disney turn that down? If Lucas was doing these games in house then yes I'd be worried. Disney is really getting a bad rap since they bought Lucas Film. No need to worry.
I imagine it won't have any immediate impact. I assume there was contractual agreement between FFG and the Star Wars Franchise before Disney bought it. So, they have to honor until the agreement is over. Anywho FFG would be better suited to answer this one. Maybe submit a question to their customer service department.
I heard that in order for Disney to re-sign a contract with FFG, that they will have to change their name to Fantasia Flight Games. I could be wrong, though.

Absolutely nothing.
What Disney wants to do with Lucasarts is have other companies make the games, and it will stick the Lucasarts logo on them, as the game's publisher.
So, basically, it wants all the creativity and risk outsourced, then will slap its logo on the finished product.
So not sure how you think that's a similar situation to FFG… as FFG is already an outsourced component…??????
Nobody here can tell what will happen. However there is the risk of the SW license not being renewed due to increased cost or unavailability. It would not be the first time a parent company simply did not renew a license for something they gained possession over, even if they had no intent to pursue the same marketing project.
Wait and see.

this is certainly true, when WOC lost the license Lucas Film let it sit idle for a while. I'm inclined to believe if Fantasy Flight continues to make money Disney would be more inclined to renew. Disney is not known for turning down money, unless they knew another company was willing to pay a higher fee.

Do keep in mind, however, that the money FFG makes… is for FFG. It would pay a license fee upfront to Disney in order to make the products, so the bottom line is, Disney gets paid, whether FFG has a hit or a failure because of that license fee. So, in a funny kind of way, Disney theoretically wouldn't care if FFG makes big money off the game; all if woul dcare about - ultimately - is the license being paid.
Money or not, some companies simply do not like to license out their materials to outside sources. There ahs been a lot of instances of "WTF?" when it comes to product licenses. Enjoy the ride for now and we'll see what happens later. How long is the term of the FFG/SW license?

i get what your saying but Disney is a company that license the hell out of their properties, especially to outside companies too. I think a good bench mark is Marvel, after the takeover it really didn't affect their licenses.
Imagine if Disney bought Fantasy Flight Games…
