rookie questions

By DevourerofWorlds, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I have a few question as have played the core set only with my brother.

0. Are "discard" and "discarded from play" the same thing?

1. Does locations attached to house cards still count as locations (i.e Baratheon plot cards) when discarding all but three locations?

2. Can you kneel a character who you just put out during marshalling phase to make the next character cheaper?

3. Which set/expansion should I buy next?

4. Who killed Laura Palmer?

5. What were they thinking upon making the Targaryen deck? I can't believe it.

6. How big is this card game worldwide?

Thank you in advance!

0. No. Discard is to take a card away from your hand, the other is from play.

1. Yes, but if they are attached to your house card they do not count as 'in play' so do not count towards the 3 location limit. (I think)

2. I believe so.

3. People generally recommend to buy the house-themed sets like "Kings of the Sea" and "Lions of the Rock". I would purchase the ones from the 2 houses not included in the starter so you have 6 decks.

4. Is this a joke or is this from the lore, because I haven't read the books yet.

5. Seems a little overpowered in theory, but I haven't played with it yet. Then again, they ARE the rightful heirs.

6. It doesn't seem all that big. In my country there's probably only a couple of people who play (around 10-20?).

1. To correct the above poster: If you attach a 'chambers' to a house card, it's an attachment and can be interacted with just like an attachment (discarded by Mad King's Legacy, Tin Link, Ill Tidings, Raiding the Reach…) and is unaffected from cards that would affect locations.

2. A definite yes (assuming you mean a character who kneels to reduce the cost, like Tully Recruiter). There's no reason you couldn't - this game doesn't have any kind of "summoning sickness"

3. Buy a second Core set. It'll help you tweak the existing core decks to reinforce the themes, get used to deck building without introducing any new cards you have to pause and read every time you play. Once you're comfortable with deck-building and playing those houses, buy a deluxe box (House Themed) for whichever house most appeals to you.

4. Umm, my googlefu says Leland?

5. The targ deck from core? It's pretty schizophrenic and not very good, if I recall correctly. 3 not-very-well fleshed out themes.

6. The size of the cardgame worldwide… it's fairly popular in Spain and France, and seems to have a generally stronger presence in Europe in general, although that's partly the population density making travel for tournaments easier (I think). Their regional tournaments can regularly be in the realm of ~80 people, while a north american regional is generally considered to be a good turnout with 20+. Worlds had over 60. Judging non-competitive play is harder, because we don't have access to any real data there. Anecdotally, there are a lot of casual players with a couple sets of cards that play (primarily) melee, at least in my area, despite a complete lack of interest in competitive play.

We should move Worlds to Stahleck, then. And call Roseville the North American Championship.

I wanted to call this out as close, but not quite there.

The OP's text is a little too generic.

A card that is discarded from your hand is not discarded from play.

A card that is discard from play is discarded from play.

If an effect indicates to discard a card and that effect specifically indicates a card or cards in play, that effect is an effect that discards a card from play.

And as always, obligatory someone validating what I just said, lol. This game is confusing at times.
