Question for those who WON a 2013 regional championship

By El_Tonio, in X-Wing Battle Reports

I am interested (and thought other folks might be, too) in knowing what squads (with upgrades) are winning at the regional campionships. I tried to collect info on the winning squads from others' posts, but it turned out to be a bit more difficult then I expected for a variety of reasons.

So, I'm hoping winners only (i.e., those who went home with the trophy) will please consider posting your winning squad and upgrades in this thread so everything is in one covenient place.

If you could also list what your win-loss record was (i.e., "4 wins, 1 loss") with this squad during the regional event, that would be valuable info, too.

No disrespect intended to those who did not win (I came in first and third at Kessel Runs and know even coming in in the top few is a diffficult task). But, I'm afraid if people post about other people's winning squads I could get some redundant info, so I'm hoping this tread can be an easy resource with squads just listed by those who actually won. I know we may miss some squads this way, but that seems better to me than accidentally counting a squad twice or not getting a squad quite right.

I will compile some summary stats as things progress so we can see if there are any interesting trends.

Thanks!

I ran:

Han Solo + Gunner+ marksmanship

Gold squad + ion turret

Gold squad + ion turret

4-0

5 Avengers may have won a Regional but you didn't hear it from me, it is a secret. Shhhhh, don't tell anyone- especially in Orlando. 3-0 15 pts. Shhhhh.

On my way home from Iowa city (ziggy's driving.) I won with:

Howlrunner with stealth device

Kath with marksmanship and gunner

Bounty hunter

I'll post on my thread when I get home.

I didn't do it, but my friend won at FTW games in Richmond VA with Han Shoots First

Han (Marksmanship, Gunner, Chewie)

Rookie Pilot x2

He had a few close calls, such as round one, taking out a Y-wing 30 seconds before time was called that pushed him to a full win.

I won this past weekends Regional in Kingsport, TN with the following:

Han Solo

  • Millenium Falcon
  • Gunner
  • Chewbacca
  • Determination

Rookie Pilot X-Wing x 2

Record: 4 - 1

I won in Morgantown with:

Krassis Trelix 51pts

Gunner, Stealth Device, Heavy Laser Cannon

Bounty Hunter 48pts

Gunner, Stealth Device, Heavy Laser Cannon

I went 5-1

The point behind this list is to get a round of shooting at Range 3 with your heavy laser cannons (which isnt hard to pull off), they wont get +1 to their defense roll at range 3 due to it being a secondary weapon and youll be getting 4 dice for your defense against most attacks comming back. In my experiance unless youre fighting rebels with falcons and Y-Wings 8 focused or target locked attack dice can finish off a ship in a single round, especially with gunner. Then go in for a round of close up fire to finish off another of their squad mates. Primary weapons at range 1 with gunner is some scary stuff. Then you can zoom on by and unload from your back arc while they have to turn around and waste actions and time. This is all subject to change of course do to what youre fighting and astroid setup. I have found this list to be very successful. Only when die rolls go down the pooper does my team start to slack.

2nd Place in Janesville, WI with 6 ships

Mauler Mithel

Backstabber

Dark Curse

Night Beast

Alpha Squadon TIE Interceptor

Alpha Squadon TIE Interceptor

4-1

beat 3 bounty hunters twice in early rounds, only to loose to one in finals.

Han Shoots First

3-0

Han, Chewie, Gunner, Marksmanship

Rookie Pilot x2

So, of all of the winners, who is actually planning on going to the World Championships? I'll be there.

I didn't think I 'd go if I won a regional, but now that I have a ticket taunting me -- I'm starting to calculate flight miles and hotel points ^,^

It would be great to meet you there. :) Radisson and Days Inn are close. My family and I stayed at the Days Inn last weekend, so I recommend the Radisson…

Tip duly noted : 3

But Days Inn is definitely more my budget range. Unless the Days Inn has killer mold or other environmental hazards, I can tough out cheap motels.

I'm pretty sure Hank and a few others from Mass who have been hitting the whole New England circuit are planning on making the trek. We'll all be seeing each other again down Maine next week!

It's certainly been a fun part of the experience both meeting new gamers and getting to see the regulars on the circuit. It definitely would be nice meeting even more X-WIng fanatics at Nationals. It's looking like the trip will be feasable.

Well, let me just say that you will be getting what you pay for.

Granted, this was just my own experience, but we had water dripping from the ceiling the whole weekend, the bathroom was the size of a closet, the bug on the sink, breakfast was worthless, the elevator was slower than taking the stairs regardless of what floor you were on, and it hasn't been brought up to ADA standards yet, so you always had to open the front doors even with luggage/stroller, etc.

For the extra $20/night or so, I'd say the Radisson might at least be a little bit better. And they're the same distance away from the Center.

I'm most certainly am hoping to go but thats a lllooonnng time away from now, who knows what work and family situations will be like by then. I'm going to a second Regional (Greer, SC) in a couple weeks so if I do well there then maybe that'll give me even more of a reason to talk my wife into it, lol. Also I've gotten my cousin into the game and he is going with me to that Regional so if he does well then….. who knows. Hothie, I would certainly look forward to meeting you should I go.

Hmm, water dripping through ceiling means high probability of mold. That is very useful to know. Radisson, ho!

Darth Vader + Engine Upgrades + Concussion Missile

Soontir Fel + Stealth Device + Push the Limit

Night Beast + Stealth Device

Academy Pilot

4-1

Shot down a lot of Falcon builds.

Looking forward to seeing you guys at Worlds!

Won mine of May 4th. I ran

Darth Vader

Engine Upgrade

Homing Missles

Soontir Fel

Push the Limit

Stealth Upgrade

Turr Fenir

Stealth Upgrade

(still trying to come up with a squad name) I am thinking 31337 or 999 the squad that flipped the devil on his head

Undefeated and had at least one Falcon against me every match. Even had a dual Falcon for one of them. See you guys at worlds and Hoping I can squeeze in the Vikings Game that thursday night. GO VIKES!

I refer to that list as the Allstars.

It's probably my favorite 100 pt build to play, but scary to run in tournaments because a single lucky hit ruins your day.

The only difference when I run it is concussion missile on vader and vet instincts on Turr
