New "Terrain" Mechanic

By Xcalibur7369, in UFS Rules Q & A

With the Set 12 Release we will be getting the new clarification and rules for "Terrain". Will this be made retroactive for all cards previously printed with the "Terrain" Keyward as well? An example of an existing "Terrain" would be Sacred Temple.

yeah, why wouldn't it be?

Terrain Keyword, upon the release of Set 12, is now the terrain keyword ability.

If you see Terrain as a Keyword on a card, upon the release of set 12, it's now a keyword ability, with the game text.

Adding an entire layer of strategy into deck building and the game itself.

so the new rules arent applicable until set 12 comes out?

Correct.

Much as Terrain cards will add a new element of strategy in the game, they are effectively Field Spells.

That's good to add to the game, it was a completely useless text up until now, and I usually found it wrong to be fighting on 3 levels at once as this is neither DOA nor Mortal Kombat.

It kinda made sense when Dan runs between 3 different Boxing Rings, he's has to keep running away :)

Not really a oofs rule, but isn't Legendary equal to Unique extended across the table? Whereas you could drop two different Legends, and they wouldn't interfere with each other.

except that there were street fighter games that had multi-tiered stages

MarvelSuperHeroesVsStreetFighter-Manhatt

this is the manhattan stage from the arcade version of marvel super heroes vs. street fighter

X-MenVsStreetFighter-Manhattan.png

and the same stage from xmen vs street fighter both would allow for the ability to fight street side or sewer side in the same match i'm pretty sure there were others but i think they were only in the marvel vs games so a moot point really i just thought this was a perfect excuse to defy the logic of the new terrain rulings lol

If i rememnber correctly you never fought on different terrain at the same time. You moved from one to the other. Meaning the terrain rule exactly mimics terrain in the games.

Well that's true in DOA and Mortal Combat as well...

You move from one part of a stage to another sure, but you're never on two stages at the same time.

tvery true for the two street fighter ones i don't think any fighting game has allowed you to maintain combat whilst falling through the transition between stages

Um... I can't remember which game it is, but I know there's one where at least one character had a combo, where they punched the other guy up repeatedly until eventually (assuming you got the full combo off) you'd both land on a higher stage.... but that's about as close as I can think of.

i know chunli and spider man had aerial supermoves that kept juggling your opponent further up in the air in marvel super heroes but can't thing of the stage you are thinking of i might have to dust of the ps1 version of the game and see if i can find it but mk3 definately allowed you to upper cut your opponent between layers of the stage but the repeated blows u r referring to would be the closest to fighting in two stages at the same time though it would be briefly and at best would only really mean ufs wise that u could pull off one combo whilst having two terrains in play rather than fighting in two different ones

Guys,

This is the rules Q&A Section.

This is not video Game Level discussion.

Take it to the off topic section.

Thanks.

what they could do is make certain terrain cards not get blown up when another is in play....say like ones that are character specific for those characters that can make you switch levels like

or make some split card terrain cards that are representative of the multi-tier stages i dunno might not work was just think it would be more true to the game than two completely different terrain cards that would never naturally have been transitioned between in one fight in the game

and just an off topic thought...why haven't we had a bonus stage card yet god knows what its application would be to the game or whether it would count as a terrain card or not i just want to see barrel smashing, brick punching, car kicking or more up to date suv demolition in the game
