Joust and Jousting

By Ikaros, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi.

Do are the old mechanic "Jousting" and the new keyword "Joust" interchangeable?

For example, if I win a challenge with Ser Gregore Clegane (Joust. While Ser Gregor Clegane is attacking, characters cannot be saved), can I play Burn and Pillage ([A Reign of King] Response: after you win a Jousting, Melee or Specialized challenge, choose and discard a location from play).

Thank you.

That particular event has not been reprinted, so, in organized play, no. However, there have been similar events printed in the LCG era with different titles.

edit: of course, I'm only referring to it in respect to this example, as I never played during the CCG era and have no idea if the two terms are interchangeable if you wanted to play a casual game, mixing CCG and LCG cards.

Ok, during CCG era there was also "Melee" trait for challenges. But its effect was uneven and different from the concept of today characters keyword. So I'm inclined to treat them as different thing, despite the identical name.

They are different, because one is a challenge trait and the other a character keyword., just like Master of Coin (melee title) is completely different from Master of Coin (attachment from A Reign of Kings). Note that Legacy rules specifically exclude plots from the 3 copies limit.

(4.9) Card Title

A player may only include up to 3 copies of a card with the same title in his or her draw deck regardless of card type. This restriction does not include the usage of plot cards.
For example, Brent may only include up to 3 copies of the card Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken (ACOS C134)* in his house deck. He may also choose to add 1 copy of the plot card Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken (WED U125) in his plot deck.

* This was written before a new event with that title was printed in The Pirates of Lys (though I would stick with the old version in any case).

@Stormwolf: there is a format called Legacy that permits full usage of CCG cards, though no FFG-sanctioned tournaments exist in this format (but a FAQ for it is available on the same page as the LCG one).

Well, yes, it's clear they are different things.

My doubt was that, maybe, when a character with "melee" keyword partecipates in a challenge, it gives the challenge the "melee" trait. I've found this written nowere, but always better ask.

My doubt was because many CCG characters said: "when this character is attacking, the current challenge gains the jousting/specialized/… trait"

Thank you :)
