Kingdom Con 1st Place TR- W/ Decklists and Strategy

By TinyGrimes, in Star Wars: The Card Game

Hey everyone I put up a tournament report for my trip to Kingdom Con. It was a small 9 man event. I was able to take 1st with The Smuggler's Den and The Hoth Lockdown. Both decks performed well and I won all my games on the day. I've provided a link to the full report complete with decklists and strategy guides. Hope you enjoy.

That was supposed to be "by the way." This site really could stand to be more mobile friendly

We will be there Wednesday night like every week from about 3 until close. Hope to see you at Game Empire this week!

Hey, tiny, are you guys playing tomorrow night? If so, I'd love to grab a few games with your group. I'll probably be down about 10 after 6, if that's not too late. Congrats on your win by the easy, I hope I can prepare for the next regional with your group!

You guys are in the LA area, right? I'm moving from Minneapolis in June and hoping to find some good groups.

Game Empire that Tiny is talking about is in Pasadena, which is almost right in the middle of LA. It's not more than a 1 hour drive from the farthest parts of LA, no matter where you are staying. Most likely significantly closer than that.

That's a great report, thanks for sharing. What do you think about the idea of using ISB agents and Coruscant Defense Fleet with Boba Fett so that Fett can have some shielding and then capture those pesky Jedi as opposed to killing them? He's a good counter to the "LS Characters never actually die" situation, I think.

I think this is going to depend on your local meta. I think Boba just gets crushed by Rebel Assault unless you are very careful and does almost nothing against vehicles. So if you are playing in a mixed meta I would steer clear of Boba until he gets more support. However, in a Jedi heavy deck he may be a reasonable answer. However, without any armor or protect characters he will still die very quickly to Han and Luke. So I think it's going to depend on what you are taking out for him and what your meta looks like. At this point I'm a bit more interested in just using Ice Trompers and tactics icons to lock down Jedi. It worked well for me this weekend, thought it will remain to be seen how well it works now that everyone will be expecting the trick and is better prepared for it. I would certainly encourage you to try out Boba and report back with your findings. At a minimum he seems promising in the current meta.

First off Tiny, congratulations on your win. It's unfortunate that it didn't have the turnout you expected. Here's hoping that other regionals will have better luck in the future. After reading your report, I'm glad you made good use out of the Hoth strategy. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit well with my playstyle of the Sith. After DOH was released, I tried it with the lockdown strategy, but it wasn't as consistent as I had hoped. As a matter of fact, Fear ended up helping my opponents more than hurting him (a good/bad enhancement is still a buff on Yoda, and a possible buff for the Weapon Master event). Anyways, just sharing my experience with it. You've already proven that it does work, and I wish you the best of luck.

Darik, I strongly encourage you to tinker around with Boba if you're thinking about putting him in. He actually is formidable in the current Sith meta. Grant it, he's a bit clumsy with Rebels, but he can maintain the lockdown with his tactics (if you win the edge). Fett and Vader have proven to be game enders for me (Fett captures the guardian and subdues Han/Luke with tactics, Vader finishes them off). Also the armor is not just for Fett, it creates longevity for your other important characters. A 6 health Emperor has made many of my opponents' jedi cry themselves to extinction. Not to mention, the blaster pistol gives your chuds more biting power (especially royal guards). Bespin Exchange and Bounty Collection allows you to use more resources to do last minute damage if your units weren't able to finish the job that turn. I'm not saying that it's as broken as Han's pod by any stretch, but it should not be underestimated. I look forward to seeing how you fair with Boba, he's definitely helped me.

Wise words, Tiny.

Encouraging words, Johnny.

I will report back after some games and our local tournament this weekend.

I just keep looking at these reports about Han getting "killed" (or should've been killed, anyway) so many times. But the aiming for his death is pointless with the protectors and Old Ben's Spirit. Then, I consult the Holy Trilogy and I hear these words from under a battered and brutal helmet:

"He's no good to me dead."

It's like Fett himself is just standing there, providing an answer. Can't kill Han? Fine, don't try to kill him.
