What exotic weapon proficiencies do I buy for an ork who can't shoot?

By Lula2, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

I'm playing an ork freebooter in an upcoming campaign. He specializes in hand-to-hand combat, using firearms mostly to suppress foes. To qualify for the Mekboy alternate rank, he'll need to learn at least two Exotic Weapon Proficiencies. I'd like one of them to be in the burna, since his 15% Ballistic Skill won't harm his ability to set enemies on fire; but what should the other one be in? At Rank 2 he has access to big shoota, burna, and rokkit launcha; but if I take the Manhunter alternate rank at rank 1, he could get exotic weapon proficiency in pretty much anything. What's optimal for him here?

Thanks!

Melee weapons. I assume you, as an ork, prefers lotsa choppy, right? Well, there's loads of exotic melee weapons that you could invest into. If your character has ever seen them, he can always try to build a copy.

Sum of dem 'umie gits 'as em big, 'eavy choppas wif chains and choppy fings (ask for an Eviscerator or something), or one of dem big smashas dat da 'umies find in da rooinz (Inertial Hammer would be incredibly evil on an ork).

Just go through whatever books you have and see what you want from the Exotic Melee Weapons section. Also have a look at the WH40kRP Armoury somewhere around here on the forums. It has lists of all the weapons from the rulebooks.

You have to be Rank 4 to qualify for Mekboy, and at Rank 3 of Freebooter you get access to Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Any Ork). It doesn't really matter because you're going to take Big Shoota. Then you're going to use your new Mekboy advance to put a Loudener on that thing, and suppress everyone forever. Orks may enjoy chopping, but they also love just spraying dakka at others and laughing when they're too scared to fight back.
