Hammer of the Emperor release date

By Soldato Cuu, in Only War

When should be published this supplement?

The Upcoming page says May 2013. So smart money says mid June to July.

Sadly, you're probably right on the date. though it is promising they've announced another product for the line today.

I'm definitely hoping for in the next month though, since I'll probably be starting a game and would love the extra regimental creation tools for my group.

Should be soon, it is advertised in the latest issue of White Dwarf and is usually out within a month of that.

A little while ago Amazon UK was advertising the release as end of April, but that's probably changed now.

From the Amazon UK's website:

Hammer of The Emperor, 144 pages

release date: 16 april 2013

usually dispatched within 10-14 days

price: 22.94£

Don't forget that on the boat status also means stuck in Customs. I have had many thing I bought that its origin was China get stuck in Customs for weeks. I bought an airsoft gun that was shipped be sea, because I am cheap, and was in the same shipping container where contraband was found. I got a letter and a phone interview from US Customs and did not get my airsoft gun for 9 months. Now if I order form China its air only and since I am poor China does not get my money.

Think about it guy the average container ship can do 400+ nautical miles a day or Beijing to Los Angeles in 14ish days. If all the logistics are right you can expect a week or two for loading and unload of the vessel. But if one thing is out of place Customs will make life a living hell for everybody.

144 pages? That's it? Either Amazon is smoking serious shard, or I've been waiting months for book half the size I (we all) expect.

May 2nd, going by the Upcoming page.

It has been said time and again but Amazon's release times are pulled out of thin air and the system that lists them is automated - basically take everything Amazon says about release dates with a huge pinch of salt, nay - a truckload!

If you know who the suppliers are in your country it can be worth contacting them directly. For example Esdevium is the main supplier of FFG stock in the UK, so a quick call to them can often give a far more accurate release date than Amazon or elsewhere.

According to Upcoming the book is being shiped from their warehouse and should be in stores shortly

The upcoming section on this website says " Expected by: May 2, 2013".

So start of may.

Why would you expect it to be any longer than that? It's essentially the WFRP Companion for Only War judging from what content FFG state is in it.

Well The Inquisitors Handbook, Rites of Battle and Into the Storm were all 256 pages long and I for one was imaginging that Hammer of the Emperor was going to be the OW equivalent of these.

So its closer in length to the Black Crusade format? Perhaps we will see more books then.

My thoughts, exactly. If the new release format is more but smaller publications I'll be more than a little put out. It makes sense for Black Crusade only in the context of having a book dedicated to each of the four Ruinous Powers, having each aspect self-contained. But isn't that why the concept of "chapters" was invented? To divide things? However, if we are going to see one book released every four months for Only War that sprinkles a few new Regiments, four of five planets and their backgrounds/histories, and…what? Mini-missions at the end of each? No, thank you.

This is getting ridiculous. Quantities are getting smaller, and the prices are staying the same. Pringles potato chips: smaller can by .42 ounces, same price. Dish washing detergent: smaller bottle by .28 liquid ounces, same price. As a retail industry employee I'm appalled, and almost ashamed. However, the difference in price between The Inquisitor's Handbook and The Tome of Blood is ten bucks…but it's $50 (US) for TIH and $160 for four Tomes. That's more than three times the price increase for only two times the volume. Anyone else getting sick of this, or is it just me?

With Black Crusade it was kind of fitting to have a seperate equally sized book for each of the 4 chaos powers rather than a start with a single large players guide. I thought that would be a unique departure from their previous schedule but apparently this is not the case, bit of a shame.

The price point announced everywhere does not look promising for it being a Fatter splat book. I think 144 seems almost a certainty.

It's out! :)

It's pretty, it adds more to the game, from what I read I've got my money's worth !!!

Definitely cool.

Some weirder things. Advanced specialties? not so much the specialties, but the other options tied to them. Like how you can essentially change to them at some nebulous point when you've made 2500 XP and spent it. With a but! ONLY the core Guardsmen specs can do this. The Support ones? Never can. so no Ratling or Ogryn Sharpshooters. No Commissar Brawlers. Etc.

Further, instead of an advanced spec? You can decide to switch to a different basic guardsman spec. Though don't get their ability bonuses (Keep your own) - though you do swap aptitudes. Yet keep any comrades and conrade skills.

Or you can double down, so to say, on your spec. Which means an ability score bonus!

This really does lead to a lot of interesting options, without a doubt.

Good to hear. Looking forward to getting a copy.

Very good! Tank ace…yeah! A question; which is the rank of the commander and how does this "class" work without the formation's combat rules?

No given 'rank' for commander. But the general feeling of it? It's basically a low level officer. They get to take a comrade advance to get an additional comrade up to 4 times. This is in addition to its former comrades from other specialties and the one it starts with when gaining said specialty. There are rules and stipulations for the sorts of orders you can issue to multiple comrades.

Regardless, the implication is they're probably like a Lt - a Platoon commander in other words. But the sky is the limit, really, and beholden to the power of drama. Albeit the game's themes are pretty much set for the low level, squad command, not grand imperial leadership or anything.

Any idea when we can see this as a download?

Probably a few weeks to a couple months, IIRC.

Another sidenote, for those like me who were hugely disappointed Ratlings were the only way to be a sniper. The new Advanced Specialty? Well, you start off as a Weapon Specialist sort and get your comrade advances there, and maybe some of the cheaper stuff your aptitudes allow, and then go Sharpshooter? You'll be WAY better as a sniper than a Ratling (And note. Ratlings are a Support Specialty, so can't get an Advanced Specialty)
