Coming this June...

By gheintze, in Battlelore

FFG announced today four new expansions for games other than BattleLore which will be in stores in June. Does this mean that the next BattleLore expansion is even farther away????? sorpresa.gif

Of course, at this rate, we'll be lucky to have any official FFG news by that point. preocupado.gif

At least I have my Memoir'44 Campaign book to keep me occupied. Just think about a BattleLore Campaign book along the same lines -- that would be pretty cool... babeo.gif

Geoff

Oh

Oh well, more home brew 'magic' as and when for me then*.....

Chris

* yes I know not very productive but as least these production delays gives me time to save up for all three expansions

That's a great way to look at it actually! I've probably dumped 80 bucks into expansions in the last month or so. Waiting a little while will let me actually play those! happy.gif

Yeah right - we can't even get a FFG employee to even respond to Richard's reply and the one reply (privately) I did get back from FFG was basically "shut up" and even questioned about items I mentioned in the e-mail that I gof from other FFG sources back in October/November. Yeah that is real good to say that to a customer!! Makes you wonder why they even bother to take over Battlelore if they can't even have a person to look over the forum or anything like that. So yeah I haven't gotten much faith in FFG since we can't even get a person to pop in from time to time.

My mother tought me that if i have nothing nice to say then i shouldent say anything and try to think harder. Being negitive will drive people away from this forum and possibly even from the game.

Be very happy someone picked up battlelore. i have been pitching a plastic mintures game and NO one in this industry even wants to consider the cost. That we have been promissed three new sets this year should be enough.

Alas its not gui%C3%B1o.gif .....FFG has delivered nothing but promises that BL fans have been getting for the last 2 years.Just the company giving the brush off has changed.Everyone wants to be positive about BL but enought is enough ,we're not getting anything positive from FFG about BL and at the same time tons of news about other FFG Games keep coming.

When FFG throws us a few crumbs then we can be positive. As my old mother said "Handsome is as handsome does".

I don't want to come off as an FFG apologist because I definitely agree there is room for improvement with them in the communications department, but...

My guess is that when they took over the BL properties there was more to it than simply taking over the game itself. There's the moulds, the production contracts, etc. All of those things likely had to be re-negotiated which can take a lot of time. Never forget that it also means squaring everything away with partner publishers for international sales.

The post from Richard is significant in that it indicated, to me at least, that FFG said something like, "What would you do with this series if it was up to you?" Likely that means a "2nd edition" may be on the way as well as expansions, but obviously that's pure speculation at this point. I think FFG probably does have some exciting plans for this game, but the longer it goes without official word the bigger the payoff may be as they get everything set up.

Even if that is the case, they still have had everything since the beginning of October (plus the 1 to 2 months before that if you want to add that or not) to get things up and running

Look how much promotion the other lines are getting...Arkham Horror, Tide of Iron, etc. I cannot believe they cannot spend the effort like that for Battlelore - a game with a BUILT in (or at least there was one) fan base already. And remember this game was in the top 20 on BGG for the longest time before the decline. That should make it a game that should have someone who can at least handle an occasion post every now and then. But I guess not and sadly if they have to use Richard as the spokesperson, that really doesn't bode well. Sure I know Richard has great plans, but he can only do so much. Sure he does have some power but the ultimate decision is in the hands of the manufacturing company.

And it's not like FFG doesn't know that we have been kept in the dark for some time. I suspect even Richard has mention that in his conversations with FFG. Since obviously if there are more sales, both Richard and FFG benefit..they certainly do NOT benefit in LESS sales, that is for sure.

And we the customers are not asking for a lot..just some info - but I guess that is even a lot to ask. Just look at the Battlelore pages here, nothing updated in like since I think December? And we there still is nothing on the Upcoming Products page either - not even about Heroes...something we all know should be pretty close to being complete after being delayed for 2+ years. Sure there might have been some tweaks but I bet it was at least 80-90% complete already with the molds and all that. Maybe other expansions might be delayed due to FFG thinking on how to do them..but Heroes is definitely an expansion that is unique (i.e. not the typical expansion of new armies)

I am an FFG apologist and not ashamed to admit it. However, I am also practical and will repeat this very simple truth:

FFG would not have paid money just to shelve this game.

They are pretty successful at making money, especially on their expansions. They will release it when they think it is ready.

And just because the announcements don't include BattleLore this time around, means nothing about when other products are getting released. They kept Android a secret during the entire production and finally released info about a month before it shipped. So we could very well see BL announced on March 31st and in stores by April 30th.

I'm not a FFG apologist because they have done nothing to apologise for,

Since FFG has taken over we know these things

Three expantions this year

We know exatly how much devlopment richard has done, something FFG could have held back if they wished

We know more about the hero's set then before

We have extra adventures for the troll

So for those of you who have no other games to play while we wait here are a few recomendations

Paint your battlelore minis

pick up some paint and find a few good tutorials on line, see if you can paint the full set beforethe next release, or find a range of figures you love and play battlore at a whole new scale, I'm painting games workshop lord of the rings minitures because the plastics are cheap and lovely when painted (also there are new mass combat rules called War of the ring that look good)

Mouse guard RPG

Do you like role playing games, played them in the past but have kids or not enough time to play your favorite? pick up mouse guard, fun to run with adults and easy enough for kids to learn. role playing the brave mouse guard with the streamlined burning wheal system is a treat. the book reads very nicely as well.

revised risk

it's fantastic! still easy to play but the public objective system is fantastic!

play game table online

Some fantastic board games can be played online at game table online.

so please FIND SOMETHING to do other then whine about battlelore

Yeah, I agree also. I find there's a lot of whining lately. We should be thankful that we're getting three expansions this year, especially with the current economical situation. I'd rather wait it out patiently and give FFG plenty of room on this one.

Besides, I've still got all of my expansions to paint...

Paint your battlelore minis

Well I've just found out about Army Painter base coats, dips and range of flocks. I have found out that my painting skills are just not there to do the minis justice so going to colour spray the units and dip. Different coloured flocks for each race and units that can be embedded get a different colour again

Mouse guard RPG
OOOH yeah, I second this one, its a great little game that can be played with little ones and sufficiently good looking that it can left out as a coffee table book..

Revised risk
I don't think I can ever pick the game up after that bank holiday weekend long game even if it is revised

Play game table online
Well this is one I'm hoping to do once I've improved my home computer (yes even Vassal runs like a dog on it)

And I'll add another idea, come up with home brew stuff to while away the time.
My next project is to do some rank filled paper minis to go onto the board instead of the plastic ones, another project pending a buff pc...

Chris

Calling other posters opinions whining is not exactly making this forum a more positive place either...

A little bit buried, but you can find them on the support page for BattleLore . Hopefully some more start popping up there soon :)

Well, seen that way I guess you're right. I take it back then. Maybe I should have used a less offensive word,,,

How about ''complaining''? As in ''expressing dissatisfaction''...

Sorry TylerT, but who needs extra adventures for the troll? I guess you mean the two scenarios from FFG?
Well, I have to say, that the two scenarios are not that, the fans were looking for, for so long. They are good, but not the the most favourites.

After we were waiting for so long - and still doing - to get a new expansion, and after so many inoffical or official announcments, we just want to have at least one of these announced expansions. Nothing else.

Yes, we know alot about all around battlelore - for over one year... and honestly... "For Troll and Country" was definetly not an expansion the fans will count it to their favourites. Nice to have a new creature - the Troll... but we know, it was not expected for this price...

And we do playing other games. Other FFG-games or what ever. More than battlelore...
Because we have to, while waiting for an new expansion.

It is just because we would like to play a new part of battlelore - thats all. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Well, I think, we can play a lot of battlelore yet - without new expansions - and get not bored.
This game is fun, makes us excited while playing. And that is a lot for one game. So I can easily wait for a new expansion, while having fun with battlelore.

...and other games gran_risa.gif

Maybe there's a problem with battlelore, so DOW had to sell it.

Maybe there's a problet with battlelore, so FFG don't know how to do with it...

Maybe I'm just a "Cassandra", but I think there's a real problem, and we poor customers are just dreaming about things that will never happen.

Two years ago, DOW alos planned to have X expantions a year...

Maybe there's a problem...

It's entirely possible that the full time production by DoW on their other games that may have been selling more (Memoir & Ticket to Ride) meant that they were continually bumping BattleLore. FFG bought it, and they wanted to consult with Richard before pumping out more and more. They have much more capacity, I'm guessing, than DoW to produce plastic minis. Things take time though. I want to say Curt Schilling responded once to the delay in an MMP reprint by saying that for his games (just cardboard and color paper and glue remember) it took them 4-6 months to get everything ready for the printer.

The key words in that post are that "Curt Schilling responded" -- the big problem is that we have no news from FFG at all! I definitely appreciate Mr. Borg posting his thoughts on BattleLore's future, but that is still a long way from FFG telling us what's going on. FFG is still responsible for the development and production of the game -- not all of Richard's ideas may make it into a finished product.

Gheintze - you hit on what I have been saying - the fact that FFG can't even bother say anything but they certainly can hype other products before they become available is both frustrating and annoying - considering the fact that Battlelore was in the top 20 of games on BBG as well - i.e. not a slouch product line. Sure it is nice to hear from Richard but like you said, Richard isn't FFG who is producing the game.

Again when FFG gives news on BL then we'll have something positive to post about. This thread keeps going on & on as some seem to feel that FFG should not be called out on their lack of communication about BL.Calling fellow players whiners or negative for expressing opinions isn't helping this Forum.

I think those of us who feel we should have some more communication from FFG have given our reasons in some detail,so suggesting that we go away & try some other projects isn't helpful.

OD

I totally appreciate that sentiment. I think FFG will post something when they feel they've got sufficient resources to post about it, and respond to the inevitable questions, etc.
