Redeemer and Vigil Corvettes

By Sergovan, in X-Wing

The redeemer mission on boardgamegeek has a good CR 90 Corellian Corvette.

I found an overhead image online and used it for the Vigil Class Corvette.

I printed both off. The Vigil is not to scale. There was an error in printing. I loaded 22 x 17" paper but the printer thought it was 17 x 11" So I have a roughly 25% smaller Vigil Corvette than what it should be but it will still work just fine.

An X-wing not having a good time during the Redeemer mission. For flying across the the sip I had those ships going over use the white side of a number token and those going underneath use the black side of a number token (the tie and tie adv. were beneath the Redeemer)

Has anyone else tried making capital ships like this?

They look great. I have been looking for top down images for this for a while. Can you post links to the images that you used. There is a post with top down of rebel transport too.

Wow….that Vigil class corvette almost looks doable as a scratch build…maybe using the Star Destroyer model from Revell.

This is the BoardGameGeek page that has the Redeemer mission and has all the rules, cards and two types of ships that you can use as the Redeemer.

This is where I found the top down image of the Vigil Class Corvette. You can find it with a Google image search.

As an extra, here is the link to BoardGameGeeks collection on user created stuff for X-wing. A definite place to check out.

I haven't looked for the rebel transport top down view. could you post a link for that apegod?

Nice work Sergovan! Do you know the dimensions for the Vigil class corvette? I would love to make a model of this in 1/270 scale. If I just had the length or width in meters I think I could figure the rest of it out. Thanks.

Just found it: Length 255 meters.

94.4 cm in 1/270 scale.

The Vigil -class Corvette was a heavy corvette for escort, reconnaissance, and utility duties of the Galactic Empire. Often classified as a frigate, the Vigil -class was designed for patrol and escort duty.

A large parabolic dish was used to intercept signals and triangulate enemy positions. Three large double turbolaser turrets are installed on the dorsal hull. Five double laser turrets with fast track targeting are installed on both the dorsal and ventral hulls. A small hanger on the ventral hull could house up to sixteen starfighters. Normal deployment was a mixed squadron of recon, light bomber, and Interceptor fighters. Two tractor beam projectors are used to capture smaller ships for boarding. A small company of stormtroopers act as both security for the Vigil -class Corvette and assault troops when boarding captured vessels.

Many of these Vigil -class Corvettes were used by the Imperial Security Bureau as heavy transports for ISB Officers. These ships also served as command vessels for Sector Police and assisted in operations with customs enforcement.

Thanks for the info DoubleNot7.

I can’t wait to get started on modeling this beast.

But the CR-90 is to scale? I read the X-Wing novels and Wedge basically put all his X-Wings into the CR-90. It was modified yes, but i just think the author of the novels must have got something wrong with the scale if yours is correct…

You are right, my CR 90 is small. It is not to miniature scale

The CR 90 to actual scale should be 21.85 inches long (150/270 = .555 meters) . I was limited in being able to print on 17 x 11 paper so my CR 90 is not to scale to the miniatures.

The CR 90 has these stats according to Wookiepedia:

Length

150 meters[1]

Width

48.6 meters[5]

Height/depth

32.6 meters (including upper communications antenna)[5]

An X-wing is 12.5 meters long. I just don't know how many Wedge could cram into his modified CR 90.

When I said that the Vigil was small, I was saying that because it was printed off of a 22 x 17 sheet but was only printed on 2/3 of the sheet. So it was out of scale to what size it should have printed at. I should have clarified that.

If the Vigil was also done to miniature scale it would have to be around 37.18 inches long!

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTJ1tY4unp_a7zgIvcVOcu I think this is the CR-90 you are talking about

I don't know for sure if this the one Wedge flew but it's name was Farstar – heavily modified CR90 Corvette – the new Republic took over construction after the Battle of Kal'Shebbol in 8 ABY. After the refit it could carry:

  • 6 - T65 X-wings

  • 4 – REC Defender Starfighters

  • 2 – Support Transports

i would love to see a Vigil in the same way.

Here is easy way: take the picture, paste to excel file, enlarge until is not to bad print. I had used 4x2 A4 sheets.

Hope it helps

Has anyone considered making a Marauder-class Corvette?

It would be 72cm long, which is realistic.

I looked up images for this and haven't found a good top down 3D image like I have for the Vigil and CR 90.

I did find one for the Thranta class corvette (its length is an estimate between 180 meters to 220 meters) So, 74 cm (29 inches) to 81.4 cm (32 inches)

pic1628740_md.jpg

and a customs corvette (Its length is 180 meters, which is 66.6 cm or 26 inches

pic1628741_md.jpg

and the scimitar, Darth Mauls ship, a modified Star Courier (26.5 meters, 9.8 cm or 3.8 inches)

pic1628746_md.jpg

I might give these a try for my next capital ships
