Make an example question (In general 1 per phase)

By powerpac316, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Make an example

After you win a challenge and count 8 or more total STR, claim 3 power for your House. (Limit 1 per phase.)

Okay so the question is does the "limit 1per phase" refer to

a) only to that particular card (hence making it functionally unless) or

b) refer to that card title per player

As a first follow up, does "limit 1 per phase" mean

a) "limited to only triggering 1" (Essentially making it like limited response) or

b) "limited to only getting 1 of the effect"

Essentially, if I cancel the effect can the same player play one more?

As a second follow does this change if the card in question was in play (Eg queen of thorns)

Sorry typo upstairs. I meant "making it functionally useless"

Limit 1 per phase is an initation effect. You are not allowed to attempt to initiate that effect again if you have already done so. You can't play multiple Make an Examples in one phase.

Ktom will need to clarify, as this could get really fuzzy when you start to consider non-unique characters with that limitation as I believe each character could trigger it's ability once. I'm not exactly sure what the precise technical explanation is for why multiple Make An Examples is restricted while I think the other wouldn't be.

Of the limit is on a card that is triggered from play (usually characters, locations, and attachments), the limit applies to just that particular piece of cardboard.

If the limit is on a card that is triggered from out-of-play (usually events), the limit applies to all cards with the same title.

Of the limit is on a card that is triggered from play (usually characters, locations, and attachments), the limit applies to just that particular piece of cardboard.

so,when new Ser Preston Greenfield in play,he can return himself to shadows, then jump and jump again in one round?because of the limit applies to just the card, when Preston back to shadows then jump out,it become a new card.

right?

That's what I thought too, but then someone pointed out Den of the Wolf - which seems to imply that if the effect itself removes a card from play, it'd apply to all cards of the same name.

Here's a ktom comment on agotcards for Preston Greenfield:
"The long-standing FFG ruling is that if a limit would negate itself under the normal application related to cards leaving play, the limit is instead applied to all cards with the same name. That's actually the reason event limits are extended to all cards with the same name. It's also why we haven't seen errata on cards like Moon Boy or Den of the Wolf (otherwise, where is the sense in putting a "once per game" limit on a card that discards itself to pay the cost of the limited ability?)."
