New to RPGs

By Gobber77, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Beginner Game

I am new to RPGs meaning I have never played one. I want to play this one however I have no group to play with. What's the best way to get started? Where can one look or go to find an RPG group?

I was in a similar situation at one point, so I know how you feel. There are several ways to go about finding a group.

1.) Through your local game store.

A lot of local game stores will have a means of helping gamers find groups, whether that be a cork-board with fliers or word-of-mouth.

2.) Convert your friends.

If you've got a handful of open-minded friends who are willing to give it a try, then see if you can generate interest that way.

Don't forget your social network sites, either. Friends of friends visibility is your best bet; public is too likely to be dubious and draw the nuttier crowd.

And if you don't find local players, you can look to play online. That's the way I am headed now as I can't find players in the boonies I live in.

As others have said, but to reiterate:

  • Friends : rope your pals into it, which may involve offering food/booze (depending on your age).
  • Meetup.com : you might be surprised how many people in your area are jonesing to play.
  • Online : you won't get the full 'round the table' experience, but at least you'll be playing .

Best of luck!
