Wouldn't it be easier just to take the Prophetess out from the beginning?
Random Character Selection (Yes or No)
Always was random. My buddy took 2nd and 3rd edition and placed them together. Doubled all the monsters stats and drawing cards was doubled. It was a huge bloodbath and burned thru alot of characters.
We did the thing with the box over the head too. We never banned any of the characters though. The prophetess was good, the minstrel was terrible, and we just had to live with it.

LOL!!!...Probably would of been
Now we can use fate token. When the player draws a character he may use in advance one fate token and take new card which he must accept. But he can do that only once. The new character has one fate point less.
i think it just depends on whos playing. sometimes i pick, shuffle and pick, shuffle pick 3 and select one while using the other 2 as spares.
hopefully they hurry the hell up and make some charecter booster decks.
I use random too.
Each player picks 3 random characters, and can choose one of them
We choose randomly. Deal 3 characters and the player chooses one to start with. If the first one dies, he may choose another from what he was dealt. new players are given a little more lenience.
Random here too. We draw two cards each (always four players), and select from those. MIght try picking just one next time to get even more combinations to the game. So far nobody's been playing with priest or monk...
Yes. Random is the way.
Try this little stratigic Tactical way to get characters.
Each player draws 3 characters. You then decide what order you want them in and place them face down. Al players reveal their top character card. Everyone takes a few moments to look at the others and then everyone gives a thumbs up, or down.
If half or more players give thumbs up, we all play the characters we have turned up. If not, everyone discards the character they had up, and draws the next one in their stack, and repeat the process.
Makes you think...DO I put my favorate or powerfull character first? or should I have it stacked last?

This is not a bad idea.
I like it
We randomly select Characters. I put the Cards face down on the board and everybody takes one. If he wants to play that Character he keeps it, otherwise he takes one more random Character that he must keep. It's like an Orb of Knowledge for Character Cards.
Moreover, when a Character tends to appear too often it is temporarily removed (previous game Characters are not put back in the pool). A player may not play the same Character until he had played at least three games with other Characters.
It's a boring to track but worth it. Still I haven't had the opportunity to see the majority of Characters into play, because I played revised 4th edition with different people.
we have two ways of doing random:
1) Traditional: you call out a number, you get dealt that card number. If you die, you get dealt a new card from the top of the deck.
2) The Trifecta: You are dealt three cards and get to choose which to start with. If you die, you choose from your dealt deck.
