A new way to do miniatures (a bit left field as it doesn't involve whats in the box)

By Elberon, in Battlelore

I'm thinking of making some paper miniatures in 6 -8 mm scale so I can have rows of troops. Its mostly a creative exercise as I don't have hours at a time free to paint the figures and would like to see ranks of lots troops rather than four figures. Would anyone be interested in a progress log?

Chris

Count me among those who certainly would :)

Sure. Sounds good.

i would love to see your sets and paper armies, just mind the right angles gui%C3%B1o.gif

Right my cunning plan is this:

A 4cm by 4 cm square fits inside the hex so it should be possible to get 4 rows of units* (or possibly 4 squares). Each unit will have three rows on it with some staggering** just because I don't think neat rows quite fits right. The front row will be 8mm high, second 9mm the last 10mm mainly for looks (well unless its too fiddly in which case they'll be the same)

Mounted units are proving interesting to sort out but I think I've come across a solution recently

Now just waiting for the beefer pc to come through and I can get started in earnest (apparently 6+ year old pcs don't like running modern applications)

Chris

* obviously 3 for mounted

** so its looks a little like this (^ is a figure)

That's a great idea actually. I'd definitely be interested in seeing your progress.

Hoo I didn't get it the first time but now I do!!! You mean you're going to make it more epic-looking right? Instead of 4 miniatures for a unit, there will be rows of figures!

I'm looking forward to see the project unfold!

Hi there,

I haven't forgotten about this but I'm having technical issues with my pc..... I'll get some pictures/ update up asap

Chris

p.s. 'epic feel' thats the phrase I was looking for

Perhaps you should buy a Mac. I love mine. corazon.gif

Sorry, I couldn't resist. gui%C3%B1o.gif

I was going to (sort of) do this with Memoir 44. I ordered 148 12mm german and american troops, and artillery. The tanks are 10mm, so they were pretty close to in scale. I was going to mount them 4 figs per 20mm base, so the whole thing looked more to sacel and a bit more epic for my 3D board.

Alas, even now I am trying to sell the miniatures (unpainted) as I just have to many other projects going on...and to be honest, I rather play Battlelore when given the choice.

Looking forward to see how this turns out.

So here it is, the basics for my 'epic fell' miniatures, the figures will be shrunk down to fit into the rectangular box (which will be 8x40mm) and will have a reverse. They are made using figures from the junior generals web site. If you like paper models hers the place to be.

Life permitting I'll get some more images up this weekend...

Righteo, now I've got over the life speed bump I've been able to finish up the infantry and ploughing through the cavalry (Green done, blue half way).

I've now reached a point in the project.... Goblins, Dwarves and Specialists (e.g. musicians) and how to do them?
I could do a whole load of new figures for each race so they look a bit different (well ok a lot) or just use the same paper figures but do different different flags to denote the differences (e.g clan banners for the dwarves, pictures of musical instruments that can be placed over the top of the figures). I think I will have to do flags to denote special weapons such as Lances for knights etc.

But what do you think would be better for the races (pragmatist half says flags arty half says new figures)?

Chris

Oh, but you are ssoo right

Harry

Hi there,

I've been busy at work on these but have had home and work interupting but if you go to here you can see the basics for all the human units. I still need to do a band unit, an embedded musician, flags and start on all units for Goblins and Dwarves and think about whether to go full on masachist and do ones for all my home brew races...

Anyway do take a look and shout back what you think.

Chris
