Critical hits versus regular hits

By Ninthplain, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello all,

This may have been asked before but do critical hits count as damage? For instance:

You take a critical hit and the card says that every turn you roll a die and if the hit comes up you take damage or you can soend your action and turn the card down. This sounds like you can take your chances every turn and possible roll good with out taking damage or just take the hit and be done with it.

Which is the correct way?

Thank you in advance,

Ninthplain

Page 16: "When the number of Damage cards dealt to a ship is equal to or greater than its hull value, the ship is immediately destroyed (faceup and facedown cards count toward this total)."

Every damage card counts as a hull hit. Face up cards (which you get from critical hits) apply other effects in addition to counting as a hull hit.

So in your example, the ship has a damage card (and is down by 1 hull). As long as the critical is in effect you have the chance to take more damage from it each turn. When you turn it down the extra effect goes away, but it still counts as the same damage.
