Space Wolves in Dark Heresy

By BlkSabbath74, in Dark Heresy

Has anyone had any experience running Space Wolves in Dark Heresy?

A friend of mine has been running an online Space Wolves RPG for several years.

Obviously, it predates the Dark Heresy RPG, but since Dark Heresy has come out, it has brought up quite a few questions. For example, what is the best way to define and use the heightened senses of the Space Wolves. Thus far, we have been using the Ragnar novels as a guide to their abilities.

Also, Dark Heresy has brought up the question of individual skills, such as; Tracking, Chapter Lore, Survival ect.

Anyway, I just wanted to know if anyone had any advice on the topic.

Apparently there is a space marine in the adventure purge the unclean. You could also use the old inquisitor book for stats if you dont want to pick up that book.

Im not sure the Dark Heresy rules fit space marines very well, they are a bit TOO good.

from france

my advice is to take the character of the space marine in the adventure book "purge the unclean" and give or take back some skills and talents.

it 's a short answer but i don't have time write more

Thanks for the info guys.

Yeah, Space Wolves (or any Space Marines) would be very overpowering to even a veteran group of acolytes. I remember how powerful they were in Inquisitor.

The reason that game works is because all the players a Space Wolves, so there is no disparity.

Also, they tackle Necron Warriors and Khorne Berserkers and other enemies a little more in line with their power level.

A Space Wolf (or even a few other Chapters) would a massive assest outside combat on a feral world where his enhanced senses and abilities would be be extremely useful - esepcially since they grew up on such worlds.

It could be an interesting roleplaying challenge to have the team joined by a SW scout (note SW scouts are not youngsters) for a mission onto such a world...............

Just wait a year or two - it's very likely that Space Marine will be published a while after Rogue Trader to complete the trilogy. This way, you don't have to shoehorn the characters into a system that is designed for rather low-powered acolytes.

That will be the Deathwatch game, correct?

Yes, it is Death Watch.

For those interested, however, there is a fine Space Marine fan supplement onthe interweb somewhere that allows believable and workable space marines using existing Dark Heresy rules.

Sadly, I havent seen a fan treatment of Marines with the needed wow factor.

Hopefully, FFG can do better.

Have you actually seen the supplement Im talking about Dez? It gives space marines Unnatural Strength and Toughness pretty fast as well as plenty of other cool "spesh mareeenisms" at very low ranks (like rank 1). Plus they get pretty nifty gear to start with.

With cheap S, T, WS, BS, A and so forth advncement fees they get pretty nasty fast.

So it isnt unusual for even a starting S.M. under these rules to have a SB of 6 or 8 and same for TB. Thats pretty impressive for rank 1!

I actually thing FFG could do far worse then to license that fan supplement and use it as their basis for their Death Watch game.

I don't think they'd need to licence it. They can, legally, just copy it if they want to. Not that I think they would, mind you, just saying they could if they wanted to.

I think what I am looking for is a sense of fun - fanplements have a nasty habit of being terribly ernest and also terribly dull.

Probably as a result of the mindset needed to actually produce something instead of rant endlessly on forums.

Anyway, we know Space Marines are teh uber. I want to see someone have some fun with it.

From a practical point of view, a Marine game is going to need five guys (i.e. the PCs) who can complete the hardest missions the Imperium has.

And since the Imperium has rogue traders with five klick long cruisers, those threats are teh ubers also.

Otherwise you end up in the slightly ludicrous situation of sending in the Imperiums best to deal with something that could be delt with just as well by a platoon of guard, of whom the imperium has countless billions. Slike Shattered Hope, where everyone stands around waiting for the PCs to turn up even though it would be easier to do it themselves.

So, what I've seen tends not very interesting and based more on a bean counting sense of what is proper than what is needed for a game.

And it doesn't have to be just Marines. Marines are the big draw natch, but we can also have anyone who can keep up with a Marine. Eldar Exarch heros, temple assassin heros. You got a character concept, bring it on.
