Ground troops

By clive65, in X-Wing

There has been much discussion about the wave 3 ships and many would like to see the Tie Bomber. If that is the case then the scenarios need to get closer to the ground. While bombing installations in space might be fun, imagine trying to bomb ground units. Hoth would be great…add some snow speeders (though you could use the A wings) and then AT-ATs etc. and I think x-wing becomes a full fledged miniature universe.

I am thinking of creating a scenario where I make some tokens that represent Imperial land forces that are moving toward the Rebel base on Hoth, while in the air Tie Fighters are trying to destroy various ships as they flee the planet..

Just two of my cents…

The problme is that at the speeds Ties and X-wings are traveling at they should get one shot at ground units before they're off the board and doing an about face to come back on. That being said a ground based rules set using the Dust Warfare rules as a base, now I would be all about that.

We already have a fighter-bomber in the game -- the Y-Wing -- and it's not really used like a bomber. So if the TIE Bomber appears in game, I wouldn't really take that as, "Excellent, we're going to start bombing stuff…" I'd take it to mean we're going to have a tough, Imperial workhorse that fires missiles. Basically an Imperial version of the Y-Wing… even though it's much more than that, in the actual Star Wars universe. The game is, after all, a dogfighting game, not a simulation of every possible thing these ships could actually do. That's how I see it.

We already use ground forces to a limited extent. I honestly do not want to see a full tanget run on ground forces. The game is called X-Wing after all not AT-AT.

Advanced TIE's make very good bombers in their own right.

From where are those troopers?

The infantry are Imperial Guard from Epic 40K. Epic is 6mm or roughly 1/300 scale. nearly perfect for x-wing.
