Variant of play 4 player

By Anyhouse, in A Game of Thrones: The Board Game

My normal game is a 4 player style because its hard to find others that want to play or play at the right time. We have played many different setups. The most recent one is to switch Greyjoy for Tyrell and using the neutral tokens on regular land areas (with no castles or strongholds) on all the castle or stronghold areas. Leaving pike off limits and there are two or three neutral castles without tokens. It makes taking castles more difficult and more realistic.

We have played this style twice so far. I was Baratheon 1st game and Stark 2nd game. Each time Tyrell has won because the Lannisters were attacking the Starks and Baratheons. As the Starks it is hard for me to attack the Tyrells across the whole board while Lannisters and Baratheons had strong navies.

While playing Baratheon, I was distracted by the Lannisters encroaching on Kings Landing and the Starks attacking my navy while I was trying to fend off the Tyrell's ships so they could not take a 6th or 7th castle.

Seems like I always have everyone else attacking me. Since no one I play with likes table talk or alliances.

Leaving the south free for control. By the time I tried to fend of Tyrell in the south I lost pretty much everything because the Lannisters and Starks were also attacking me.

Next time we play we are switching Tyrells for Martells to give the southern house a immediate threat.

Let me know if anyone tries this or has tried this setup. Or if anyone has any input on what I posted :) Thanks, Good Game
