Movement questions

By Argyle Jedi, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I'm still getting a hang of the game, and these forums.

Say it's time for me to move a level 7 and a level 6, then my opponent moves his level 5. Can I reverse their order, since I'm controlling both? Can I stall on an action for my level 7 until my level 6 moves, so that he's in range again (Squadron Leader, for instance)? And does a collision occur once all the pieces are moved, or as soon as my TIE contacts his X-wing, even though he has yet to move this round?

Many thanks.

You must activate ships in order. You cannot swap your 6 and your 7, in your example. And collisions are determined on a ship-by-ship basis. That's why it's fun to fly a bunch of skill 2 tie fighters in front of the Rebel fleet and watch the collisions pile up. :)

Edit: and you're aware that movement/actions are done starting with the lowest pilot skill, then in ascending order, right? In your example, the 5 would move first, then the 6, and then the 7.

Ships move from lowest Pilot Skill to highest. In your example, your opponent would move his PS 5 ship and perform its action. Then your PS 6 ship would move and perform its action. Your PS 7 would move last and perform its action. You may not "stall an action". If your PS 7 ship had Squad Leader, he would be able to give a Free Action to the PS 6 ship as Free Actions may be performed outside of the normal Perform Action step.

The combat step is reversed, with higher Pilot Skill going first.

Reread the rules covering the various phases of a turn as this is explained in detail.

There are no collisions, only Overlapping. A ship that overlaps another ship during its move may not perform an action during the Perform Action Step. The ship that is overlapped does not suffer this penalty. If the ship that is Overlapped has not yet moved it may move and perform actions as normal. Note that ships that are touching may not fire at each other during the Combat Phase but my fire at other ships.

Hope this helps!

Jim

Yes, got the numbers backwards, but yes. The firing occurs in the order I listed, but it's inverted for movement.

Thanks Jim, cleared it all up.

Gratias tibi, valeas!
