questions about heralds and corruption

By Guest, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I am yet to have any of the expansions that add heralds with corruption cards, so I have a question: Are corruption cards the same as guardian cards in the sense that the player keeps them, or are they a one -time effect? Also, what is the deal with the gate symbols on on some of them? When you get a corruption all monsters with that symbol move or what? I need to know these because I'm making a herald for my custome expansion and I want him to have corruption cards. tnx.

Might take a peek at the Black Goat of the Woods rulesheet. I think that's available on this site.

The only herald that deals with corruptions is the Black Goat herald--you receive a corruption each time you defeat a hexagon monster. However, you can get corruption cards via encounters using the Black Goat expansion's encounter cards.

Corruptions stay with an investigator indefinitely. Some have abilities that are active as long as the investigator still has that corruption. But all investigators have a dimensional symbol and a color: whenever the monster movement pattern during Mythos shows a corruption's symbol moving on the corresponding color, the latent ability of the corruption activates. Some are not bad-- Endless Greed makes you switch a monster in play with one in the Outskirts. Some are scary-- Downward Spiral makes you draw two more corruptions. The corruption deck is set up with 16 green cards on top of 16 red cards--the green cards are bad; the red cards are worse. Clearly you don't get to the red ones until the 16 green ones have been drawn.

Whenever a gate is closed, investigators discard any corruptions with the corresponding symbol, regardless of color. Also, discarded corruptions are returned to the box, and not returned to the corruption deck. If a corruption card needs to be drawn and none remain, the Ancient One immediately awakens.

Hope this helps.

IIRC Endless Greed (as the name suggests) is all about the bling-bling. Can't lose money, don't have to roll for retainers, but can't give money to other either. Also get $4 if the white or black hexagon (totally going by memory) symbol comes up in a Mythos card and draw an extra corruption.

Endless Greed

  • You cannot lose money unless you choose to spend it, and you do not have to roll to keep Retainers, but you cannot give money to other investigators.
  • Gain $4 and draw a Corruption card. (Triggered effect on Hexagon)

Call the Beast

  • Exchange one monster in play with one in the Outskirts, if able. (Triggered effect on Square)

Thanks. I thought I changed it to Call the Beast. Thanks, forum.

Thanx guys, and ya, I've read it in the rules.
