Combat Shotguns: Scatter Confirmation?

By BloodAngelAzrael, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

OK, I'm back, because the new forums and site changed my profile and password, I have to redo over again.

My question is: How do you roll for scatter on a combat shotgun on semi-auto?

You roll to hit, and check how many hits you take, but then what happens to the scatter?

would 3 hits equal 3 scatter hits? Can anybody clarify this?

lets say you have 70 Bs when shooting semiauto with your combat shotgun and you roll 001 the
then you hit at 70, 50, 30 not 10 since the gun only fired 3 shot, and now the scatter part
the first shot hits with a pellet at 70,50,30 ,10 this is 4 hits
the second shot hits with a pellet at 50,30, 10 this is 3 hits
the third shot hits with a pellet at 30,10 this is 2 hits
this make a total of 4+3+2=9 hits
this means if whatever you fired at was human, then its properly dead now.

Take a look at the Errata - if memory serves, it's illustrated there with an example.

I calculate semi-auto and scatter seperately. On three degrees of success, you get'd one extra hit from semi-auto and one extra hit from scatter (one for every two degrees of success).

Not sure how official that is, but at least it's easy. :)

slaunyeh has it right

from errata 2.0

For example, Horatius Kane fires his combat shotgun
at Heretic X. Kane is at point-blank range and
fires a semi-automatic burst. Kane rolls 01 with his
modified Ballistic Skill of 70 (30 BS, +30 for pointblank
range, +10 for firing semi-auto) and hits by
an amazing six degrees of success. He gets one hit
at 70, one hit for semi-automatic at 50, and a third
hit for semi-auto at 30 (he does not get a fourth hit
at 10, because the combat shotgun’s rate of fire is
3). He would get additional hits for scatter at 50, 30
and 10, for a total of 6 hits on Heretic X, most likely
shredding the cultist to bits in the Emperor’s name.”

Well, that takes care of that! I'll be sure to equip my tech priest with one soon. XD

Took the words right out of my mouth. Vanaheim is a FULL auto shotgun. Every degree of success is a hit.

If you use the previous example with the Vanaheim you would have hit with 6 shots AND 3 scatter.

On that note I have to pose another question.(sorry to hijack the thread). If you shoot someone on full automatic and get say...4 successes, that would be 5 hits correct? 1 hit for just making the roll and 4 more for multiple successes. That is how we play. Also if you try to dodge said spray and get 4 successes you would dodge all 5 hits? 1 for making the roll and 4 more for the extra successes. That is how the rules translate for my group.

Yes, a success lets you dodge one bullet, one degree of success lets you dodge one additional bullet. I like to dispense with the DoS and just think 10 under what was needed; 10 under= one more bullet dodged, 20 under = two more bullets dodged and so on. My brain sometimes gets stuck on DoS for some irritating reason.

EDIT: I assumed we weren't talking shotguns at point-blank anymore
