Having not watched a single episode of the new BSG, will I enjoy this game as much as others?
Fun for everyone?
Yes. Or, at least, more than enough to make it worth playing.
I've heard from quite a few people that the game is still ridiculously fun even if you have never watched the show. I would just say that the game becomes EVEN funner once you have seen a bit of it though, since everyone is then making BSG references and quotes like "so say we all!" and "Frak!" and/or talking like Tigh talks, etc, all of which adds to the experience.
I would say definitely still play the game, and then sometime pick up the BSG miniseries off of Amazon or half.com. It's included in with the full season DVD sets, but you can also buy it separately for like $15 new. Here's a link: www.amazon.com/Battlestar-Galactica-Miniseries-Edward-James/dp/B00064AFBE/ref=sr_1_8
It's about 3 hours long and is what started off the new show, so it's a great way to introduce yourself to the BSG story and the characters quickly.
I decided I really wanted the game based on just reading the rules. That led me to the show. So I can't say I played the game without being a fan but that was my original intent. And I think many would find the game fun even if they knew nothing about the show.
I know a little bit about BSG, but have never watched the show. I say that it is definately the best board game of 2008. I think Arkham horror may be a little better overall, but it is a tough call and they are definately my favorite games.

Best board game of 2008? That's pretty high praise. Perhaps I should pick this up.
BS:G is stupid amounts of fun. And the series is incredible as well. The things that makes this game my favorite FFG game to date are two: first, everyone is involved all the time in the game- there really is no time that a player won't have input, however limited. Second, the hidden cylon mechanic is fantastic as it casts even the smallest actions under layers of suspicions.
I am praying for an expansion, and soon.

Seriuos?
Imagine a game of 5 - William Adama (me a Cylon), Laura Roslin, Saul Tai, Boomer, Baltar (a Cylon) and Starbuck.
The game got so well to us cylons that after the 1st one exposed itself (Baltar) I was thrown to the Brig (Cylon loyalty card). We manipulated the humans so hard taht in the end I was the onlyone walkin Galactica's corridors while 3 humans were in he Brig! They knew then I was the 2nd Cylon
In the end we destroyed the Battleship (6 damage tokens) and won.
That's a stupid amount of fun
P.S. What will be the expansnion? Pegasus? New minor ship to help fight the tosters? More action cards, characters and cylon ships? Hoep we will see it soon (and it won't kill the game)
How well does the game capture the feeling of BSG?

The game pretty much matches up beyond PERFECTLY with the feel of BSG.

I'd have to agree.
Before I watched the series and played the game, I had read the rules about 3 times and perused some of the cards. After watching the miniseries, I told my wife, that it just described the game perfectly. As we watched the rest of season 1 and have started season 2, just about every picture/quote/event in the game has been dipcted on tv. And even though we have only managed one game and it was the 2-player variant, we felt it really captured the spirit of the series with the tension of not knowing who was a Cylon, the increasing threat surrounding your, the urgency to travel fastr than light, and contemplating your dwindling resources.
This has been one of the most thematic games I have ever played that was so closely linked to the orginal source while remaining mechanically strong and playable.
Having played BSG and never watched the series, I have to say I had indecent amounts of fun. So prior knowledge of the show is not necessary, though it will enhance game experience.
Our playgroup consists of two people who have seen every episode so far (including me), one who has seen 3 seasons, one who has seen 2 seasons and 1 who hasn't seen it at all. Everyone seemed to enjoy the game quite a lot. The only problem was trying to restrain myself from leaking spoilers during the game.
