Scenario: Star Wars: A New Hope. Escape the Death Star

By Englishpete, in X-Wing

This scenario is a simple one designed to recreate the classic fleeing of the Death Star in the Falcon from Episode 4.

Rebels

Chewbacca

Upgrades: Millenium Falcon, Luke Skywalker, Weapons Engineer (represents Han in the other turret)

Empire

4 x Academy Pilot

Playing area 3 x 3 no asteroids.

Rebels set up on the center point of the play area.

Empire set up 2 pilots top left corner no more than range 1 from either edge, 2 pilots bottom right, same stipulation.

The game lasts until either all 4 ties are dead or the Falcon is.

I actually ran something very similar to this a couple weeks ago to introduce my wife to the game. She was the Falcon and I took the TIEs. It was a pretty close game, she destroyed the last TIE but the Falcon only had one Hull left.

She was bragging about blowing me up all weekend.

I really didn't mean the double entendre…

I think it should be six ties.

Pointwise it should rather be 5 Ties but it was 4 in the movie wasn't it? But i amnot sure if it should be Academy pilots, could it have been Howlrunner and her sauadronmates pursuing them or was that in the escape from Bespin?

It was just mook ties as they are all destroyed in the movie.

With your permission, I am so jacking this idea. Great mission! I love it.

It's there for all to use :-)

It sounds like it was challenging enough, but you could always choose Black Squadron TIEs and give them some Elite Pilot Talents to up the ante.

If it's not "spicy" enough I'd use one Black Squadron Pilot with a suitable upgrade.

Don't forget, in the movies the Empire was supposed to lose. It's not supposed to be balanced :-)

I tried this scenario tonight and Han lost with 3 Ties remaining. Great fun!

It'll be even more fun with the new Starfield game tiles and the Death Star hanging ominously in the background.

This is a brilliant mission!

Rebel:

-YT-1300 with Millennium Falcon title:

-Added evade action

-Chewie as pilot - All faceup damage cards are flipped facedown

-13hp (8 hull + 5 shield)

-Luke and his re-attack ability

-Merc (as Han himself) with the range 3 - hit to crit ability

Imperial:

-x4 [Academy] Tie Fighters

-12hp (combined)

-4 times the attack numbers

This scenario seems pretty fair and fun! Maybe add "Push the limit" to the mix and we're cooking with gas!

This is just the sort of thing I'm looking for (it would be nice for FFG to do some)

Thanks

I am glad folks are having fun with it :-)

We have played this type of scenario before. I forget the exact points but it the MF versus 4 TIE, two anmed, two generic pilots. The Falcon did not escape.

Played this twice last night, with the same players playing the same ships. First game, the Falcon wiped out the Ties with 5 hull remaining. Second game the ties destroyed the falcon whilts taking only one point of damage. The main difference was the tactics of the Falcon. In the first game, it was able to put two points of damage on two ties before the others got to the battle by moving to them first. In the second game, it moved away from all the ties, which allowed them to attack the Falcon together. Luck in dice rolling also helped (but doesn't it always).

We also tried two games using Boba Fett with the Laser cannon and the siesmic charge against 2 rookie x-wings with torpedoes. First game Boba Fett wiped the floor and second game Boba Fett was wiped.

YES! Nerdily speaking, Black Squadron was on DS1 at the time.

We just played a variant of this at luchtime at work and it was great. A very, very close game.

We played with:

Academy Pilot (12)
Winged Gundark (15)
Dark Curse (16)
Mauler Mithel (17)

vs.

Han Solo (60): YT-1300 (46), Elusiveness (2), Luke Skywalker (7), Chewbacca (4), Millenium Falcon (1)

…which made it 60 points each.

We also ruled that the Falcon starts dead centre but can place 6 asteroids anywhere legal on the map. The TIEs start one in each corner.

At the end of the game, it came down to the Falcon with 2 hull remaining vs. the Academy Pilot and Winged Gundark both with one hull each and hot on his tail. The Falcon crashed into the Academy TIE, fluffed his last shot and was destroyed by Gundark.
