Mission: Bombing Run

By GumbySmash, in X-Wing

So me and some friends are working out a sieries of missions that are thematicly challenging, but still balanced. The 2 we're working on are Bombing Run and Gravity Well. I'll be posting more about "Gravity Well" later, but it's going to be like the awsome Victory SSD that is being built. "Bombing Run" is a senario like the trench run in "A New Hope". Enjoy!

Setup: Playing field is a 2x4 area. The Imperial forces set up within 1 of the starting short edge, with the Rebel forces starting within 3.

Squadrons: 100pts each, Rebels need at least 1 proton torpedo or concussion missile.

Victory Condition:When a rebel ship with a proton torpedo or concussion missile leaves the board from the short edge on the opposite edge from the starting point.

The need for SPEED!: each turn, starting turn 2, all terrain moves a 3move twards the starting area. If a ship passes over a terrain piece at this time it collides with it a breakneck speed and is destroyed.

What do you guys think?

Just some clarification…

the Imps start on one side of the table within range 1, the Rebels start on the other side of the table within range 3, or the same side?

the need for speed moves the table toward which starting area, presuming the former in the question above? (if the latter, it's a moot point…)

otherwise, looks interesting. I'm sure Skorpious will "adopt" this for our campaign…

They both start from the same board edge, with the imps within 1 and the rebs within 3. It turns the mission into a chase for the imps. The parts we are playtesting are: how fast to move the terrain in the "need for speed" move, should the ships fall back so far as well and defense lasers. Right now I'm against the lasers. The rebs have it hard enough as it is. I like the 3 move for the terratin as it keeps things moving, but I've had a few say it's to little. We'll try it out a few and see. As far as the ships "falling back" I've had some good suggestions. The one I'll be testing is if the ship is angled towards the starting area, it falls back like the terrain. Ships can also volentarily fall back (a breaking manuver) as an action. One of the things we are working to do is keep all of our mission senarios balanced, unique, and simple enough that the whole mission could be printed on half of an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper with a spase for a setup diagram.

A 3 move sounds like too much since a 4 on a Y-Wing is a red manoeuver… So for the Rebs there are pretty much only X-Wings and A-Wings to carry those missiles or they will just fall off the map (of some sort).
