Can I play a Jedi (kidding)…err…a Mandolorian?

By TalkingMuffin, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Seriously, I was kidding! Ow! Stop! Jedi suck! Jedi suck!

;)

What I really wanted to know is if the beta had anything on Mandalorian "stuff", not if you can play them. It's really all fluff anyway and their trademark armor could presumably be statted with what's in there. If not, no biggie and thanks!

Now about using a lightsaber…

*runs away!*

The beta has only a bare minimum of fluff - not sure if mandalorians are mentioned at all, but the book is mainly mechanics and rules, no fluff.

The mandalorian armour could be a variation of laminate, heavy battle armour or (stat-wise) the armoured clothing (give some other benefit than concealment, like the body glove of laminate or heavy battle armour). If you want it to be beskar'gam - add the cortosis quality and whabam: few things can hurt you.

Yes, it really amounts to fluff. As was stated, add the cortosis quality to armor; Mandalorian weapons are more of a description and can be done with maybe a few modifications with qualities if needed. Backgrounds are fluff anyways so you can easily say you are Mandalorian.

If you are looking to be Boba Fett out of the gate then you will be disappointed. You have to work up to it.

Not at all. More letting my players have the trademark Mando armor. It doesn't have to be listed as "Mandolorian Armor", more being able to say, "Hey, this listed armor looks like Mando armor, but uses these stats". From what I've read it doesn't seem as if it'll be an issue.

Jedi on the other hand… :) (And yes, me loves Jedi, but I can wait. "Firefly Star Wars?" Um, yes please!)

There was a pretty good thread over on the d20 Radio Forums about playing a Mando in EotE.

Being a Mandalorian largely boils down to role-playing elements, namely following the Mando Code. Being Mandalorian is more of a cultural thing than a species thing, and while having armor that's in the Mando style is great, it's not required to be super-tricked-out armor (at least not right away).

You're right in that aside from appearance, most Mando armor would be indistingiushable from the other armor types listed; you could very simply have a set of Padded Armor be the basic Mando-style chestplate and helmet, but with no further add-ons, and requiring the Tinkerer talent to modify it, perhaps adding the Superior Armor Customization or Enhanced Optics Suite armor attachments. A full set of light/scout Mando armor would probably be akin to Laminate Armor, again with the armor attachments listed above, while the commando armor sets that Jango and Boba wear would be heavy battle armor.

But at the same time, a fully tricked-out set of Mando armor does give a PC a definite goal to work towards.

Working towards epic armor? Very cool!
