I'm still relatively new to the game (and card games in general) and when this card came up amongst friends we couldn't agree on how it executed. Any help is appreciated.

Does the "you" refer to the player who attached the card or to the player who controls the character that it's attached to? Within my group I was able to see arguments from both sides, but being unfamiliar with how certain card game text played out I wanted to get some clarification from experienced players. Thanks!

"You" always refers to the controller of the card.

So, in this case, it refers to the controller of the attachment - not the controller of the character the attachment is on.
