Ion Cannon and Homing Missiles

By LedZep, in X-Wing Rules Questions

2 Questions poped up during gameplay yeterday.

Ive read that Homing missiles is awesome because you dont have to spend target lock thus allowing you to re-roll.

Is it true? Ive read on other forums but not here yet. Confirm?

Second question is about Ion cannon on large ships. From what ive read the ion token stays until another is adqired and then the ship suffers the effect and the tokens are discarded.

So…if I hit the falcon with my only Y wing and the turn ends, people discard tokens…does the ion token gets dicarded? Someone who I was playing with that it had to be on the same turn because at the end it is discarded if nothing happens. Thanks!!!

First question: yes. The card doesn't say to spend your Target Lock, so unless/until its errata'ed, you don't have to.

Second question: no. There are lots of tokens and effects that stick around when a turn ends, and this is one of them--otherwise, no ship would ever be affected, since the movement penalty applies on the round after the damage was dealt. A large ship simply ignores a single stress token until a second one shows up.

If your friend persists, ask if he minds applying the same principle to stress.

Homing missiles don't require you to spend you target lock to fire, just have it on the targeted ship. So yes, you can use it to re-roll.

ion cannon effects on large ships---the one damage and ion token does happen, however, the token stays with the ship until a second one is put on it, then the ion effect happens ( 1 straight-white maneuver).
