Ion cannon question ?

By Burning Wings, in X-Wing Rules Questions

When a Ion cannon hits a ship with shields do the shields stop the hit, but does the Ion effect still disable the ship for one turn?

You lose a shield or take one damage if no shields, then move 1 straight white maneuver, a large ship takes two ion tokens to move 1 straight white.

So if my ship has one shield and takes a hit from a ion cannon the shield takes the hit and that's it. Correct

Yes, and you can only move 1 straight.

Ion cannons work mostly like any other attack, as specified in the core rules on pages 10-13:

Step 1: Choose a target, with the restrictions specified by the upgrade card.

Step 2: Roll attack dice, just as you would for any other attack.

Step 3: Modify attack dice (Target Lock, Focus, etc.) just as you would for any other attack.

Step 4: Roll defense dice, just as you would for any other attack.

Step 5: Modify defense dice (Focus, Evade, etc.) just as you would for any other attack.

Step 6: Compare dice results, use defense results to cancel attack results just as you would for any other attack. If there is at least one uncanceled [hit] or [critical] result remaining, the target is hit by the attack.

Step 6a, aka THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE WHERE ANYTHING CHANGES: Instead of taking damage based on the number of uncanceled results, the target instead takes 1 damage and 1 ion token.

Step 7: That 1 damage is handled the way you would any other damage. If you have shields left, you lose a shield token; if you don't have shields, you take one face-down damage card.

So the answer to your question is that if you're hit by an ion cannon, you receive an ion token regardless of whether or not you have shields.

what happans if your stupid enough to fly between two y wings and get two ion tokens?

If you're a large ship, that was indeed pretty stupid because large ships need 2 ion tokens before they suffer any effects. For regular sized ships, the 2nd ion token doesn't change anything and both will be cleared after moving in the next round.
