2 vs 2 tournament idea.

I am thinking about creating and trying out a varient to the normal tournament set-up.

-It will be 2v2 instead of 1v1

-The teams must play the same faction. A given I know, but you know how some people are and this is just to nip those arguments for mixed teams in the butt.

-Each team member will have either 50-75 points to build their half of the team. Leaning toward not allowing both members of a team to take the same named pilot to avoid some issues like two Vaders, Turr's, Wedge's, etc.

-The side that won the initiative will have one player go first, then the opposing side will have a player go, then back to the side that won and so on. This is just for the movement/action phase of the round. Combat will proceed as normal in the rulebook.

-Debating on if two extra asteroids/obsticals should be allowed on the map, if so then two extra of the smallest available.

Hoping to get some thoughts from all of you here on what you think about this and hopefully refine and improve the concept.

we played a 2v2 the other night with 200pts per side, after two and a half hours we managed to make it to the end of round 4 before we had to call it quits
was a ton of fun but just remember that 2v2 takes almost double the amount of time to play due to 4 different players trying to do everything and discussing strategies on where to go and whom to attack

We have played 2v2 for the last week, if you keep the points to 100-120 per team, the games are about 1.5 hrs….we played two 200 v 200 pt games last night, and we made it through Star Wars :a new hope and empire during the course of these two games :-)

I would just use the regular initiative and movement rules, no need to adjust those, the only thing we did was alternate team members placing asteroids.

I'm with Jetsetter. We play 60 points per player every week. We usually have four players, but if one doesn't show up then we play 3 v. 3. We had one week where there was only two of us. We took our existing lists and just bumped 'em up 40 points. One week we had five players and played 2 v. 3 with equal points on each side.

Last weekend we played a 200 point game on the Death Star. The game took several hours. 6 rebel ships v. 10 Imperials. The playing board was so big (80x60") that the forces couldn't start shooting at one another until round 4. Once the action started, we used every bit of that board and had a lot of fun. BTW- Imperials won.

No need to alter the rules, just divide up the command and use a few extra points.
