Return to Iocanthos (Possible Illumination Spoilers!)

By Space Monkey, in Dark Heresy

Hi everyone!

We've just done the Illumination adventure and myh players were both killed by the Skae Thing, though it was a very vlose call. At one point I honestly thought they had the bugger.

Aaaanyway, they've made new characters, one of which was lucky enought to roll for a Battle Sister. Now, my plan is this:

Their mission will be to return to the planet and find out what happened to the Seer and his entourage (thge previous PC's). While there, they will discover the Tarot Deck and hopefully the fate of said individuals.

They'll receive this mission almost a month after the original PC's left for Iocanthos.

Soooo... I thought I'd plumb the imaginative and (some mght say) unstable minds of you, the forumites!

What do you think the settlement would be like 1 month after the Crow Father succeeded with his plan?

I was going to let him move from the Abbot to the Seer, but that would almost equate to an Unbound Daemonhost which is a little too harsh.

I was also going to have the settlers become corrupted into being the daemons cult. Also, the Ashleen will be fighting a skirmish war with the daemon and his followers.

Other than this, I'm struggling. Does anyone have extra ideas, or even a completely different apporach to how things could unfold? The PC's will be accompanied by 2 NPC's too for extra "firepower".

Please help!! Brain Freeeeeze!

I have a few ideas, but they only really work if you want this guy to be the focus of the campaign, or at least a powerfull recurring villan. Basically, yes, make him an unbound deamonhost, or something even more powerful. Second, for the purpose of this adventure he may already be gone. I would think that daemons hold a pretty good grudge, so his previous defeat by drusus would be a huge thorn in its side. While Iocanthos is important to the crow father it would have been only a pitstop to drusus during his campaign. The daemon may take off looking to despoil any planet with a strong connection to the saint. I'm not sure how many stops you could put in between but having a final battle on sentinal as a powerful daemon attempts to desecrate the final resting of the most important saint of the sector would be a good finish for it.

For the immediate adventure though, With the daemon out of the way you could look at the residents of stern hope as being horribly corrupted. Not the tentacles from the head corrupted, but mentally and thier souls. anyone who could have resisted the daemons corruption (IE the previous characters) would have already been killed off by the daemon and the surviving townsfolk would form the basis of a cult dedicated to the crow father. They likely would be in conflict with the natives, and possibly the voicers as well. The number of cultists would be a fair threat on their own if well equipped which they should be with the resources of the town. You can also add more supernatural threat by having them led by one of the brothers from the original adventure, who could now be possessed by a lesser daemon than the crowfather. After all Iocanthos IS important to it so it wouldn't want to let it's control slip away completely and it would not trust a wholly unbound daemon with it's little playground. This gives you the option of giving them a fight against a demon that's not going to be WAY overpowered for their level, and also one that will have different strengths and weaknesses than they would be expecting from the demon which killed their last characters. That could be a nasty surprise if they just think to go straight for the eyes this time. :)

Hope something in there helps.

Interesting ideas you have there! I may well have to look into using a lot of those...

Thank you!!
