Protective card sleeves

By mrgoodtrips, in X-Wing

Hello, Have just finished armour plating my movement dials and am now looking for some shields for my cards, problem is I dont know where to start.

am I correct in thinking I need 63.5mm x 88mm shields for my ship cards and 43mm x 65 mm. there are that many shapes and sizes and desighns that ive gone crosseyed. any recomendations, must go granny wants to feed me!!!!!

FFG sells sleeves and the size is on the package of each expansion. IMO it is a waste though since they are already laminate and you are not constantly holding them like a card game.

BTW, what did you do to armor plate your dials?

just used sticky backed plastic trimmed to shape to stop the outsides wearing, used matt varnish to start with but this wore away.

You'll want 41x63mm for the small cards.

Not sure about the larger ones, but I use 2 5/8" x 3 3/4" for mine. 2.5"x3.5" might be ok.

I ordered the smaller ones here. http://maydaygames.com/card-sleeves

Fantasy Flight games sells yellow and red sizes of card sleeves. Xwing uses the yellow size (41 X 63 mm)

You have 2 options. Either you spend extra with FFG's own cards, which will net you 50-pack sleeves and are MORE expensive than the alternative (see below), you then need:

FFG gray 63.5 mm x 88 mm (pilots)
FFG yellow 41 mm x 63 mm (upgrades + damage)

the alternative are less sturdy but much cheaper cards that come in 100-packs, and these packs are less expensive than the 50 ones you get from FFG, not just on a per card basis, but ALSO on a per-pack basis!:

Mayday green: 63.5 x 88 mm (pilots)
Mayday yellow: 41 mm x 63 mm (upg + dmg)

I just did them all 2 days ago with Mayday (I spent nearly $30 for all my current games, including android netrunner with 3 expansion packs) so if I went the FFG route, it would have neared $100 in sleeves, no thanks.

I don't have Netrunner and only Star Wars: Xwings. I bought a 50 pack of the Emperor shooting lighting for $4 or so and split the pack with a friend who bought the blue lightsaber. It has been enough for all my ships until just recently. I'll have to buy some more for my Empire, which I have more of. I bought 2 packs of the smaller cards and have been able to put my damage deck and all my upgrades into sleeves with some left over. I have:

starter set

3 Tie Fighter boosters; 2 Xwing boosters; 1 Tie Adv; 1 Ywing; Slave 1; 2 Tie In; 1 Awing

All this cost me about $10 and it looks spiffy with all the Star Wars imagery on it. I can easily tell my Rebel from Imperial, too.

I had experience with the Premium grade 50 pack 41x63mm cards.

Today I just received some 100pks of the 41x63mm regular sleeves. They are EXACTLY 41mm across, so the small cards don't actually fit in them. That's disappointing.

Apologies to those who ordered the 100pm 41x63mm because of my link, I hope you have better luck than I did.
