The Action
After jumping into the system Bravo flight detected a group of fighters near the edge of the system. Alpha flight peeled off and continued on toward the planet.
Darkstar,
flying lead with rookie pilot
Shadow's
X-wing close on his right wing tip, adjusted his vector to line up on a pair of TIE fighters approaching from his left. He normally flew a BTL-4 Y-wing but after losing his last ride he was assigned this new T65B X-wing. His old wingmen
Token
was on his left side flying a Y-wing.
Token
started to adjust his position also when he spotted four more TIE's coming in on there right flank. He radioed
Darkstar
and then turned into them at full speed. As the ships approached each other they began trading shots. No one seemed to take much damage as they flashed by each other.
Darkstar
was momentarily blinded when a laser blast bounced off his front view screen.
Token
Ion cannoned a couple of TIE's and was now headed directly at two TIE fighters coming in from the right. A quick turn around by both formations put them head to head again. Out of reflex
Darkstar
hit the Fire toggle and saw his shots strike home but as he turned to get a better look that TIE fighter's wingmen fired and suddenly his cockpit was awash in flames and sparks.
Tokens
Y-wing also took a battering as he passed his foes. Darkstar and
Token's
ships were both badly damaged so as he finished off his second TIE fighter he gave the signal to fire up there hyperdrives and headed home.
As Alpha flight descended toward the planet they picked up a group of enemy ships lifting off and heading there way.
Jor'de
moved to the left,
Joker
to the right well
Widowmaker
and
Train
took the approaching ships head on.
Widowmakers
luck continued to hold as he had barely touched his fire control pickle when the TIE he aimed at exploded. A few seconds later both
Train
and
Widowmaker
spotted it at the same time. A new ship was amongst the enemy TIE's. It had the same round, ball shaped cockpit of a TIE but its solar arrays were bent in at the top and bottom. They also saw the exhaust plumes of multiple missiles leaving the ship.
Jor'de
had turned into the center formation and damaged a TIE but then witnessed the hammer blows
Widowmakers
X-wing took from the missile impacts. He didn't expect to see it emerge from the explosions but it did. One s-foil was blown off all the way up to the engine housing. Two engines were out but it continued to sweep around in a shallow curve well pouring fire out with it's remaining weapons.
Joker
signaled that he had taken down a TIE but was unable to join up with the rest of the group because he was cut off by the remaining four enemy fighters. The new enemy fighter and his wingmen had turned around and were lining up the heavily damaged X-wing of
Widowmaker.
He radio that the only thing still working was his hyperdrive so
Jor'de
gave the signal and they all jumped out of the system.
Mission Partial Success:
2 Academy pilots and 3 Black Squadron TIE's shot down and Maarek Stele's TIE Advanced damaged.
