High Mage Quellen and Reynhart the Worthy //// New Game This Thursday

By gaarge, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Is there a resource available online for viewing their hero skills? The site I have been using ( http://www.descentinthedark.com/2nd/glossary/ ) doesn’t seem to have them online.

On a side note, any tips for who you think are the best heroes? We’re starting a new game on Thursday, with the Lair of the Wyrm expansion pack, and our team is deciding who to be.

There will be 4 heroes in our game. One guy is kind of set on being a healer, and the other guy on being a scout. I’m kind of tempted to be either Burrowell or Leoric (though I was Widow Twanky last time, so I’m not so sure I want to be a wizard again, even if they do appear to be quite different…)

I think Burrowell would be a good companion to a healer…

Although, before I make my decisions, I would really like to investigate the two new characters! Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the expansion before Thursday.

Thank you so much!

There is a wikia site, descent.wikia.com but I do not find it too user friendly, TBH…

I'm sorely tempted to try out Reynhart or Quellen. Anyone got any feedback from their experiences? Good? Lame? Meh?

Anyone got any theories as to who is the best hero?

I am currently playing as the Highmage/Geomancer, and I can tell you he is by far the most powerful character. Given that his once an encounter gives him double stamina and then he can recover all of it at the end of the turn is crazy. The Geomancer is really good and in my opinion the best mage. The stones are amazing and really help to block off the Overlord movement since they are considered obsticals. The ability to use the stone as a blast attack is also really good because you summon the stone in between a group of monsters, and then use the blast skill and take out the whole group.

As for the fighter I haven't tried him yet, nor has anyone in our group. The ability to reroll an X on an attack is way too good to pass up. That gives you a 1/36 chance of missing in combat instead of the standard 1/6. The champion deck looks to be really good, but more of a utility fighter than a tank. The Knight is, IMHO, the best of the fighters but I need to see Champions in the field to see how they really fare.

Hope that helps.

I've been playing a campaign as Reynhart with the Champion class. I'll be honest, other than the intro we haven't won a single quest (4 player, played through 2 quests) but I think he adds alot of punch to the team. The ability to basically buff all of your allies with Valor allows for better attacks and better defense. An extra valor per defense roll really begins to add up and our Healer (Avric) was a mini tank being able to effectively stand up to some of the stronger enemies. His attributes are pretty average, we played Death on a Wing, and I was failing Might tests here and there, but overall he is pretty balanced. In regard to his abilities I have seen it used to devestating effect. The fact you can reroll a missed attack is huge, and with some lucky timing, the heoric feat (rerolling a failed attack and regaining all of your stamina) can be very frustrating for an Overlord. I think once I get him decked out with some better equipment, he will be an even more effective tank combined with the healer. The more you kill, the more your allies and yourself benefit. My two cents.

Husker949, BsnOne,

Thanks for your feedback. I think I will try out Quellen. I was a necromancer before and I really enjoyed it, so I reckon the stone summoning ability will be a nice progression. I like characters who have non-linear abilities too.

I decided not to go for Reynhart since actually I’m kind of thinking that Healer/Scout/Scout/Mage or Healer/Scout/Mage/Mage would be a good combo. Basically, I’m thinking to sacrifice strength for flexibility, and hunt for more treasure, so by the final battle we’ll have made up for brute strength with awesome skills and equipment. This hasn’t been agreed upon by the group yet, but no-one seems to be that taken with any fighter class so far.

Thanks again,
