10 Questions About Edge of the Empire

By El_Tonio, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

New post by FFG here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=3965

Much of it is not new, but there seems to be some new info (or at least some new insights on old info).

Be sure to check out the table of contents PDF. Looks like there may be a new/different adventure in there (I don't see the adventure from the Beta listed in there).

Yep, new adventure in the corebook.

And going by the table of contents, looks to be quite a bit of new background fluff included as well.

While you're right in that a lot of this isn't exactly "news" for the folks that have been playing along since the Beta peroid, still nice to have this info in one spot, as well as confirmation of a few other things, such as more gear and vehicles as well as no Jedi (at least not in this book).

Hoepfully this is just to wet our appetite for the additional previews, they did a good job with the beginner game so I have my fingers crossed for more juicy bits of infobeing released over the next few weeks/months.

Unfortunately there is one big type on the Index, I hope this isn't the version that is currently being printed….oops…

Lookin to open that can of worms again are we? Heh heh.

A new adventure is good. For those with the Beta and Beginners Box that is four adventures (if you haven't played them) to start off with. Very nice.

@ lupex, what is the typo? I'll bet this is the published version since it has already been sent to the printer.

I'll be there will be more previews. And, I hope the beta adventure is posted as a pdf for free online (like long arm of the hutt was for the beginner set). Especially since they already have it and many people did not have the beta and get to play it.

Look at the top of each column, Chapter VII is listed as 'Playing the Game' but I think it should be star ships?

Its as if a Million proof-readers cried out and were suddenly silenced…..

I'm sorry, which columns are you talking about? The only chapter name I see is "Chapter IX: The Game Master" on the image of the open book. Also, I don't see how the name and # associated with a single chapter could be assumed to be a typo. The final product is more than double the length of the beta, so there could be organizational changes and re-ordering of the chapters to accomodate all the new material.

It's in the downloadable Table of Contents. Chapter 7 is at the head of the second column, and is listed as "Playing the Game" when literally every subsection listed undeneath makes it clear that this is the Starships and Vehicles section.

The Base of Operations ……………………………………………312

I'm intrigued. Sounds interesting.

Yeah, that Chapter VII error caught my eye right away, too. D'oh!

Otherwise, looks good. Looking forward to more previews! :)

Stoked to see this update yesterday! Artwork is looking awesome, gonna have to get two copies, I'm sure the first will be ruined by drool!

AH! Thanks, I missed that link when I skimmed the article. I totally see what Lupex was talking about now. That's a pretty glaring typo, but if its the worst one in the book, I'll be happy. Surprisingly few organizational changes (practically none), so that was my bad.

About 100 pages added to the material/sections in the beta book and about 120 pages of totally new stuff about the galaxy. I think I can be satisfied with that volume. Just hope the content quality stays high. Also looks to be well bound.

I hope we see more preview of the book. I hope it comes out in April.

I'm sure we'll be seing more previews. FFG's been doing pretty well with previews for the X-Wing minis game, and gave us some decent previews of the Beginner Box.

As for April release… I'm still thinking early May is a more likely time frame, but late April wouldn't be a bad thing.

It seems the index has now been updated complice

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to purchase the game as a PDF file and re-download a free updated and correction version as often as necessary?

I don't post this to be critical at Fantasy Flight, as I don't know of any company that tried this apporach before. (Maybe Green Ronin?)

Green Ronin has done that pretty consistently, especially with their Mutants & Masterminds line, often letting folks buy the PDFs a few months in advance, which in turn lets Green Ronin get a bunch of extra sets of eyes to catch any typos or goofs that made it past the editing process, and then providing a free PDF update once an updated version is available as well as cutting down on the number of errors/issues when the book does go to print.

But sadly (at the risk of opening this can of worms yet again), with FFG not being able to sell PDFs due to the terms of their license with Star Wars, such an option isn't available.

I'm pretty sure that if FFG could sell PDFs of their Star Wars products, they'd do be doing so, as it greatly expands the customer base given how many folks enjoy being able to carry PDF versions of their RPG books on their tablets.

So it is custom dice again, he?

Let me first state that I do like the concept and the additional fine grain of the custom dice pool mechanic… however if the same happens like i nthe OTHER game that uses these, you are in the middle of a rancor dung heap… namely if for whatever reason the custom dice are NO LONGER AVAILABLE WHAT DO YOU DO? Eh FFG we still need these dice for that OTHER GAME!

Cheers

Not sure what "Other Game" you're referring to. The dice for EotE aren't used in WHFRP or with the X-wing game.

But if you can't find these custom dice for a game, then use the charts to roll "normal" numbered dice and convert the numbers to the symbols. Problem solved. Or buy the app for iOS/Android or find one of the other dice rollers that people have created since the launch of Beta.
