List for my son

By Cygnar, in X-Wing Battle Reports

So my 10 year old has expressed interest in playing this game with me. I am trying to put together a decent list for him to start so he can have a fun experience without overwelming him with too much synergy. He really wants to play rebels.

The list I have so far is

Wedge (proton torpedoes, marksman)

Luke (r2-f2)

Horton (ion cannon, r5-d8)

might figure these are good solo pilots that can also show him how they can work together a a team.

Any sujestions would be appreciated.

My biggest suggestion is to choose as few Imperial ships as you can when you play against him. This will give him a better chance of winning (which is always fun).

The ships and load outs you've chosen are just fine, but I would definitely start BELOW 100 points. Begin with the quickstart rules, then squad build with 50-55 pionts. I do this with neighbors and it really helps them get the hang of it because they have fewer ships to worry about.

also, i would try to avoid the Y-wing, it's a support ship and requires finess to use properly, if you're gonna play him at 100 pts, you may as well just give him 4 x wings, so you don't confuse him, and maybe just use 1 or 2 named pilots to start with

10 year olds are usually pretty quick learners though so i'm sure he will be flying the y-wing in no time

a solid list for 100 pts with easy play would be

-Wedge Antilles
-Biggs Darklighter
-Red Squadron Pilot
-Red Squadron Pilot

packs a lot of punch and should get the job done just fine

Give him the YT-1300, I'd say Han, and 2 X-Wings. All with minimal upgrades.

how has the testing gone?

previous suggestions on this thread r all good.

wedge plus a rookie versus 4 standard tie fighters would be good. i cut my teeth on the x-wings when i started. flying 4 is easy enough esp if u fly them in two wings either 2-2 or 3-1. having a mid-range pilot skill pilot is quite good as u get to move and fire before their weaker pilots :)

yeah i agree the Y-Wing takes a bit to get used to. as a support ship it seems to just sit there dishning one hit damage too slowly but its ability to disrupt enemy flying formations and hit anything within 360 degrees is what makes it so good but u have to fly it quite a bit to get the hang of it.

four rookies with shield upgrades. learn to fly first
